Question Need help making a decision...

So.. I'm going to buy g35 coupe in a bit and I came across 2.

1. 2005 G35 Coupe
Navi, 19 inch wheels
47k miles
6mt

2. 2004 G35 Coupe
Navi
42k miles
6mt

The price difference is $2k. I really like the '05 interior but am worried about the oil consumption problem.
Suggestions?

That's not really enough info to go on. Vehicle condition, and whether you're buying each from a private owner or a dealership will have an impact.

If you were to assume that they were both in pristine condition and being sold at the same dealer, I'd say go '05 for the $2k difference. The '04 Brembo's are sweet and those motors don't have the oil consumption issue... but if an '05 with 47K miles on it was going to have a factory-induced oil consumption problem, I think the problem would have already reared its ugly head by now. Aside from the Brembos and no risk of oil consumption on the '04, I see no reason to not get the '05 if you can afford the extra $2K.

if the 04 has brembos go with the brembos. infiniti is dumb for getting rid of those in the latter models IMO they make the car look official

04 for sure...
I usually lease for 3 years and trade up, but I decided to keep my 04, it's been a great machine for me and I plan to hang on to it... I will buy a G sedan next year to relieve the miles on my 04, but i'm definitely not letting it go.

Get the 04, they are special... Brembo's, lighter, proven solid engine's!

I would have to agree with the above statement. The 03-04 6Mt's are a special vehicle. I love mine and I never want to get rid of it.

Call the dealership and ask if the 05 has had previous oil consumption problems....if they say no...go for it.

Not me.. I suggested the '05 if you are sure it has no oil consumption history. I have an '04 and frickin love it in almost every way.... but for only $2K more, you will be buying a vehicle that has an extra year of warranty, a more powerful motor, slightly upgraded interior quality, larger rims, a bigger Nav screen, and an MP3 capable OEM head unit. The only advantage to the '04 is the awesome Brembo brakes... which stand out to me as one of the single coolest things that I love about my car.

05 - Gotta love a 7,000RPM redline, even with oil consumption issues. I'm picking up an '06 on Saturday and I'm almost hopeful that it does fall under the TSB. You can't beat buying a used car and then getting a brand new engine put in it. I'll gladly deal with the any amount of hassle for that kind of service.

Plastic interior on '04's completely kills the mood for me as well. '05 looks like what a luxury car should look like. Infiniti recognized that image issue which is why it was changed. Plastic interiors are becoming a thing of the past with many brands.

And the stunning 19" forged wheels by Rays on 05's compared to the standard looking 18's on 04's? Wow, what a difference that makes.

Navi differences between 04 and 05 - somebody help me out here: I think you have to manually pop the 04 Navi up. On 06's (and I would think 05's) it automatically raises up when you turn on the ignition which is much more impressive to the neighbor kid

the navi is not manual, and the rays wheels are pretty sick but i like my DG w/ almost matching 18's, not to mention most people ditch the stockers for some 20's anyway, and those brembos look awfully purdy behind them. i picked up my dg with warantee still left, 31k miles, nav, brembo, 18's, spoiler, in near mint condition for 23k out the door, u wont find adeal like that on any 05

Well like my 06...i put 1000 miles on it already and the dipstick is still showing higher then the H mark....You just have to ask and find out within that 30k miles has the previous owner every brought up the oil consumption problem....because from what I have been hearing is nothing that you can overlook....I hear the motor gets very loud and you can definitely tell.....

Good luck bud. Carfax dont hurt either.

the 05 has 47k miles... no need to worry about oil problems at that milage but ask the dealer the oil history anyway... go for the 05 IMO 19's, nicer interior, navi... and besides you can always upgrade the brakes..

Do research on both and see what you like best...
