trip computer?

I'm thinking of getting a G35C soon and I have a question: Does the non-NAV version have a trip computer? For things like instant MPG, average MPG, distance to empty, etc.? Is there any kind of message warning system, like for low washer fluid, bulb out, door ajar, etc.? Like I've seen a text based message system integrated on the LCD display of Volvo S60's and Audi A4s, as well as on my Z06, and was wondering if the G35 had that standard too, or do you have to get the NAV system for that?

I believe you have to get the Nav for MPG's, Till Empty, etc. It also includes a on screen display of warnings, trunk open etc.

I can't speek for the Non-Nav, but I am fairly the trip info is not included w/o navigation

From Infiniti.com

DVD NAVIGATION OPTION - With GPS sensors, DVD-ROM database, a tilting and retractable 6.5-inch color screen, and Infiniti's pioneering 3-D Birdview™, this option offers some of the latest in satellite navigation technology. Includes trip computer, maintenance reminder, and fuel economy.

As for the Functionality of the Nav I have not been that impressed. It doesnt even have an address book.

Re: trip computer?

My non-nav G has only two trip meters, you have to learn to do simple math your self to figure MPG. But, you may not want to know anyway!

Don't know about you guys...but all I have is a "tripometer" that allows you to track the mileage for 'trip A' and 'trip B'.

If you're thinking of somekind of onboard computer that tells you the MPG, distance till empty, etc. like the BMW or Lexus...no, the non-NAV doesn't have it...or at least mine doesn't. Mine was also one of the first coupes to arrive, so they might have changed something since Oct/Nov.

Re: trip computer?

Hi bro, No trip computer; no MWS, but I believe non Navs do have a warning 'BEEP' for open doors and such.
My advise : get the Navi---Along with a long list of functions and goodies, it is also tied in with the 'service engine soon' (MIL) and I believe it prompts to the problem area.
I love mine, wouldn't be without it.

That's a great feature. I wasn't considering the NAV option originally, but now it seems to offer a lot more than just navigational assistance. I just wish it was a touch screen and a little less than $2k. I'll definitely have to check it out though. I assume it has voice directions with it too?

Re: trip computer?

when does the nav start keeping track of gas millege? have had it for like 6weeks, and only 100KMs on it, and it's showing up as ****, so i guess you have to fill up first before it calculates it?

Re: trip computer?

Yes, the nav has a voice. "In about a quarter mile, keep to the left." "Right turn ahead, then in a quarter mile, left turn." Etc, etc. I find it's pretty good.. you can get where you need to go w/o looking at the screen at all.

You do have to pay attention to local traffic laws. It took me down a street once, told me to turn left, but the street was divided and had a big "Right Turn Only" sign on it. So, I turned right, and headed for the left turn lane to make a U-ie, and the system auto-recalculates my route, and wants me to turn right, go around the block, come back up the same street, and turn left. Sheesh. Don't know what it was thinking, it usually will go for the u-turn.
