anyone replace their windshield b/c of a crack?
driving home yesterday, i noticed a crack on my windshield that i never saw before.. it's about 7 inches long, not exactly sure how deep it is.. so im not sure if it can be repaired or if i'd have to replace the entire windshield.
have any of you guys replaced your windshield before? if so, how much did it cost? also did you get an OEM windshield or just a generic one?
thanks

7" is a bit big for a repair and may not be recommended by the technician but it's worth asking. I used safelite.com when I needed a repair which was no bigger than a dime size. They quoted me a little over $200 for a generic, including installation and seals.
Your insurance almost definitely covers the cost of a new windshield. Most insurance companies will give you up to 2 or 3 a year if you have full coverage.... no deductible either, and no sur-charge.
Any crack would require the window to be replaced. The glass shops can repair a hole caused by a rock chips or something like that. I had my windshield replaced once in the last 5 years. I had 2 rock chips repaired by injection. A rock chip left untreated will turn into a crack sooner or later.

unless you're replacing your windshield every year - it is not worth it to include windshield coverage on your insurance. (at least not in Canada - despite the fact it costs about $320 for full replacement in Canada
).
).
check the deductible on your insurance policy and use insurance to pay if the deductible is cheaper than the cost out of pocket. Do not go with Glass made in China, they crack toooooo easily.
