Re: Beat a Porsche!
>Not a big fan of Carreras. Way overpriced poser cars, IMO. If you insist on driving a Porsche and call yourself an auto enthusiast, then be a man and step up to the 911 Turbo. If you can't afford it, then keep saving until you can - but don't waste your money with a Carrera.
>Everytime I see a Carrera, I think "wannabe"
That's an odd thing to say. Many owners prefer the driving characteristics of a N/A car, and aren't interested in anything running forced induction, regardless of how fast it is.

WRAH's dad: Shut the hell up, son, your embarrassing me! I thought you were a man, then you go off to become an architect, and drive a woman's car. What happened to you childhood dreams or becoming a policeman, or garbageman. and driving a man's car like an F-150, or any FORD.
And stop bothering me I'm watching the game, go UCONN!

I agree - I prefer the driving characteristics of a N/A car. I wasn't referring to forced induction versus N.A. I was referring to the overall performance of the 911 Turbo versus the Carrera. The Turbo is a major force to be reckoned with and is a true high performance sports car. The Carrera is not - its a wannabe. An overpriced wannabe at that!
If the 911 Turbo got its performance in a N.A. form, I would like it even better. I guess that's where the GT3 comes in, but its more expensive and still has less HP.

Re: Beat a Porsche!
i dunno, i have to admit, the 911 turbo is hott, the GT2 is 10x's hotter, but just the fact that a carrera 4S has awd and you can turbo da crap outta it....i'm a big fan of turbo cars, and an even bigger fan of AWD turbo cars....

I don't understand why you're so enamored with the Carrera 4s and modifying it with a turbo? The 911 turbo already has AWD and the engine you're modifying the Carrera 4s to.
The biggest benefit is the 911 Turbo has a factory warranty. A turbo'd Carrera 4 will not.
Modifying Porsches gets VERY expensive. Blow your mind expensive. It can easily cost you $20k just for the freakin motor! Parts and repairs are very expensive, and they're a nightmare to work on (NOTHING is easy to get at with the engine squeezed back behind the rear axle).
The absurd parts and maintenance costs is a major reason that many guys who track their 911's regularly have swapped in Chevy V-8's. They could put an entire new Chevy V-8 in for the price of just one turbocharger! Blow a Porsche engine, and it can cost you as much as a new Toyota Camry to replace it.

Re: Beat a Porsche!
Yeah, the Carrera might be over-priced, depending on how much money you have, and/or where your priorities are. For example, many Carrera owners aren't terribly concerned with 0-60 times, and realize many of today's "common" sedans can challenge (or take) them in straight-line acceleration. They're looking at the over all package, the visceral sound & feel of the air-cooled engine. Or, they appreciate how track-ready the car is right out of the box. And, even without the turbo(s), they're still serious performance machines. Sure, there are poseurs--as there is with any premium brand--but there are lots of people that own 'em because they love the car for what it is.
Agree with you on the cost of maintaining (or modding) a 911. Blow an engine, and it's home-equity line of credit time. If I ever sell my Carrera 2, it will be because I've grown tired of the cost & aggravation of maintenance.
Love the G35 Coupe, btw. What a great package.
