Considering buying 2005 or 2006 Coupe – Questions

I’m thinking of buying a used 2005 or 2006 G35 coupe (with automatic) and looking for any suggestion as to the things that I should look out for when making the purchase. Obviously buying any used car involves some sort of risk and I know that G35’s have a good track record, but are there any particular things that I should be aware of? For instance I read in several places that the car might be a bit harsh on the tires, needing new sets after 5-7K. Is this true for cars with sports package suspension only? Things like that. Would be interesting to hear all your opinions and suggestions

As far as tires are concerned you just need a durable set. Look for higher threadwear on tires, which will yield you higher mileage. The coupe is harsh on the tires, the sports susp has more camber to it, so tires like the michelins it comes equiped with (18's) will go like...that.

As far as the car itself, its a good car overall. I've had mine for over a year now and no problems except wind noise from the drivers side door. I have not been able to fix this and it drives me crazy! When i test drove the car i never took it over 60mph due to the fact i was not on a highway! Lately it has some weird squeaky noise coming from the rear brake, but thats just a pad change at most. Good luck on the purchase! Its a gas guzzler BTW! Compared to my daily civic. =)

If I were getting any G35, wait for some of the replies in the TSB about the over-consumption of oil problem. there were replies from owners of non-revup engines experiencing the same problem. might be just bad luck. who knows?

take a read if you like

yes the G will eat up the tires a little fast thanks to the negative camber in front (tire feathering) i got over 30K out of mine (i have the sports suspension) but its commen on all G35 coupes...

the only problem iv had with my 05 is the door lock acuater went out but that was covered under warranty.

also the 05-07 have a few window problems but they are covered under warranty

Well, I have already accepted that it's going to be a guzzler But what mpg are you people getting out of it on average?

It is alll over the board since your driving style plays a huge part. If you floor it from stop sign to stop sign, you will not see good mpg. But if you drive normal I think you will see 17 city and 22 highway? Type in MPG in the search button on the top of the page. Their are some good threads about this. I would get an 06. Also forget about the oil consumption, its covered under warrenty and its not like it happens to EVERYONE. That should not be the deciding factor of buying the car. Good luck! Oh yea, buy a camber kit and whatnot to help with your tires.
