Fuel Gauge Off?

Fuel Gauge Off?
I've had my 04 G35 coupe for a few weeks now and have noticed the fuel gauge is quite off. For instance, i would fill up to capacity then drive to work(around 11 miles) and it'll show i have 3/4 tank left. I find it hard to believe that I used up 5 gallons of gas driving 11 miles. Also, a few times it showed i have 1/4 tank left but when i fill up, i can only put in about 9 gallons before it got full?? Anyone had this problem?

mine is doing this as well
i wonder if it has something to do with improper ventilation in the fuel tank when i'm refueling?
when i go to fill the tank, it clicks at the half way point...and then after that i have to use like half pressure to fill the tank (annoying and slow) because the air isn't making its way out of the tank fast enough to let the fuel go in.
not sure how to fix it yet just happened a few days ago...gonna put it on the hoist and peek around

Yea, use the fuel gauge only for reference. A lot of times the car doesn't let you fill up to the top so even when you think you're filled up, the gauge does not go all the way to the top. As long as the light goes on when you're really low on gas I wouldn't lose sleep over not exactly accurate gauge. Take care.

These cars are notorious for fuel tank/gauge problems. If you search you will find many threads about the same problems.
Seems that there is a valve in the filler neck that malfunctions, and closes off if there is too much back pressure during fill up. It thinks the tank is full, and usually its not.
There is a TSB on it, along will a recall for faulty fuel vapor lines cracking.
If your under warranty, take it in, they will replace the valve.
A few have had their entire tank assembly replaced in order to eliminate the problem.

Every car is a little different. But mostly when there is inconsistency in the drop of the fuel needle, it is usually attributed to the shape of the gas tank. In my Camry, it would stay at full for the majority of the time but drop rapidly in the last 1/3 or so. The G might be quite the reverse although I haven't paid too much attention to it. Please don't mistake this for the filler issue some G owners have had though. If you fill up your tank and it clicks off, but your needle is not at F. You have a filler issue which requires repair.
