Key programming
Key programming
Hi,
I'm from New Zealand.
I bought a 2003 JDM Skyline 350GT Coupe in September 2005.
I have loved the car but clocked up 99,000 kilometers so thought it time to replace it.
I have just traded it on another Skyline 350GT Coupe a 2005 model.
It only has 14,000 km on it.
Problem was the importer only had the one key. So I kept the spare key for mine.
I have had a flat key cut which turns the ignition switch but of course needs the signal from the transponder in the head of the key. If I hold the key for the '05 car by the switch when I turn the flat key the engine will start.
I now want to program my previous car's key to be able to unlock the doors and as a backup. (I am going to try to use the blade of the flat key I had cut in the head of the old key)
Can the normal keys be programmed without the dealer equipment like the keyless fobs can? Anybody know how?
I priced the Skyline key from Nissan here but the cost is NZ$650 + 12.5% tax.
Also how do you open the head part of the key to get at the battery. The manual shows opening the keyless fob type but not the key type.
Thanks
Wayne

Keys need to be programmed by a dealer using a Consult II or a locksmith with a programmer. I can't remember the name of the programmer but it is VERY expensive ($7,000+ USD) and the vast majority of locksmiths don't want to invest in such an expensive piece of equipment. You cannot program additional keys by yourself. You must have all keys present at the time of programming as the process wipes out all previously-programmed keys.
