Reverse to Drive Clunk...
Reverse to Drive Clunk...
I just noticed something the other day, When I was reversing out of my garage, and when putting the car into Drive, it makes a loud CLUNK sound. I was thinking maybe i put the gear in too fast and I didn't give the tranny enough time to engage, so I just sat there and kept going from D to R and vice versa, and each time it made the clunk sound. I'm setting an appt with Infiniti to check this out. Anybody else have this problem?

Re: Reverse to Drive Clunk...
I have an 03 coupe and have the same issue (don't think its a problem). If you sit still enough and look out your window at your hood you can actually see the whole car shift along with the clunk. I think its normal, but if otherwise please PM me and let me know so I too can get this checked out.

No its not the brakes, Because i know what that sound is, its the ABS modulator self-test. This noise comes from, it sounds like the driveshaft, but i'm not entirely sure.

Re: Reverse to Drive Clunk...
I posted the same question a few days back...
I noticed the same thing with my auto trans...
after a good hard or long ride...when comming to a standing stop and shifting into reverse, there is a loud clunk from what sounds to me the rear universal joint or the yoke on the rear end....
If you let the car idle for a few minutes or shut the car off...when you restart it a few minutes later it does not do it any longer...
I figured it was the result of pressure in the valve body on the trans which cause a hard shift at idle....
I took my car in for an oil change, but since it doesn't do this constantly I figured I give it some time and see what happens...really annoying though...
let me know if you get any results from your dealer...Maybe there a TSB out on this issue...thanks
