Re: front tire size question

I have 17's and went to American Tire and I told them I wanted 255/50/17 V rated or better. He pulled my car, base model, up on the computer and it recommended 245's no wider. He said he would order the 255/45/17's but could not guarantee they would work. I will have to pay a restocking fee and shipping both ways if I don't want them. Will they work?

SmokinG--

I would not put wider than 245 on the stock wheels (I am assuming that is what you have). If the wheels are not wide enough, you will have prolems. The sidewall will flex inward if the tires are wider than the wheel. You can get to a point where the wider the tire you have, the less contact patch you will have on the road.

Re: front tire size question

There is a person out there that has put 255/45-17's on the coupe's stock 17" rear rims.

See:

It seems to be okay depending on what tire you get, as some are more forgiving than others.

I plan on using 245/45-17 for the front and 255/45-17 for the rears once the stock tires wear out.

Re: front tire size question

why not buy the bigger wheels and you wont have problem to fit large size of tires.

Re: front tire size question

I had to have these factory chrome rims after I bought my car, so I am going to use them for awhile. I wished I would have waited a year and looked around. Maybe in another year I get 18" OR 20's.

Re: front tire size question

I absolutely love the stock 18" wheels. I wish they made the exact design in 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5. I would buy instantly. Lighter, forged too perhaps heh. One can dream.
