Just got rear-ended!!!
Re: Just got rear-ended!!!
hum... i rear-ended some chevolet truck infront of my high school with my mom's Camry about 2 months ago, i was on one of those driving without thinking states and i assume i just didn't see the car infront of my stop and bam smashed into his back, his truck looked took no damage at all, but my camry's front was totally recked. because his bumper was higher than my bumber and it went straight through.
anyway almost all drivers drive without acknowledgement of what they are doing, they act like a machine when they are behind steering wheel. pretty much the subconscious does all the work because driving is such an easy task.
So unless you get hit on purpose don't take it out on the other driver, they feel bad enough already.
btw to conclude that story the Camry costed about $7500 to repair, and my insurance rate like doubled(i am in NJ), and about 3 weeks after that i got into my desired college and got my g35 coupe...

Re: Just got rear-ended!!!
I suppose it depends on whether or not the other driver displays a little common sense after the accident. When my wife and I were rear-ended in our Grand Cherokee, the driver of the car that hit us seemed more concerned with getting himself home than with anything else, citing the fact that there didn't seem to be much damage to the bumper. My wife had her head turned at an angle and got a pretty bad case of whiplash. She seemed like she was going into shock, too. And this guy just wants to leave. I got his car info and license info (he had no insurance, wasn't even his car), told him it was in his best interest to stay, but he left anyway. We had to bring an an ambulance for my wife, as she could barely move by this point. So dumbo added "hit-n-run" to his list of tickets.
As for driving without acknowledgement, yeah.. he mentioned something about paying attention to his crying girl in the back seat instead of the road. We were at a 4-way stop in the middle of the desert between Lancaster and Edwards Air Force Base. The only scenery in sight was 4 stop signs.
This guy also borrows my cell phone to call his wife to ask her if he should stay or just come home. I just added his home number to the list of information I gave to the sheriff. As an added bonus, after he leaves, his wife calls my phone, asking if we're calling the police and mumbling about her husband saying there wasn't much damage to the truck. I told her I didn't really care much about the truck at the moment, but seeing as how there was an ambulance on the way for my wife, and he didn't have insurance, that yes, I was definately filing a report.
The bill for the ambulance alone cost more than the new bumper.
I don't know what happened to that guy, but we had full coverage with uninsured motorist coverage. 21st Century fixed our bumper (it was torn and had to be replaced, $600) and picked up our medical deductibles. 21st responded quickly, though I had to front my deductible for the 3 weeks or so it to the Lancaster Sheriff's office to finally getting around to officially filing my report and sending a copy to 21st.
Keep your priorities straight out there. Totalling a car is cheap in the grand scheme of things. My wife's shoulder finally stopped bothering her about 10 months after the accident.

Re: Just got rear-ended!!!
Nope. It was handled under "uninsured motorist coverage" not under "comprehensive/collision". That's insurance in case the other guy doesn't have insurance. If we didn't have the uninsured motorist coverage on our policy, it would have been handled under comprehensive, I would have had to pay a deductible, and our rates probably would have gone up.

Re: Just got rear-ended!!!
Just thought about this but I wonder if the reason I didn't get whiplash was because of the active headrests...yet another kickass feature of our cars!

Re: Just got rear-ended!!!
The same thing happened to me at 400 miles on the clock.
Stopped at a light, look in my rear mirror and see a Tahoe coming up on me, he's slowing down, and getting closer and closer. I see him talking on the phone, getting closer and closer. I think to myself "I can't believe this guy is getting so close to me and not hitting me" well then he hits me. Slow almost not moving, but the ***k is not paying attention and happens to outweight me by about 2k pounds. We pull off the road and no visable damage. No scratches, no dent, nothing...
Well as I'm later pulling my paper plate off to install my metal one, the plate lights falls out, one is broken and one is ok.
The car held up well for a 2.5 ton distracted driver bumping me. The high bumber did it's job and I think if I would have boungt that 330Ci I would surely had a dented trunk and $$$$ in damage.
My .02 to all that listen; HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!
