brake letter question

I dug around and coulnd't find anything posted on this, although I am sure it was somewhere...

I got one of those letters saying that I could get my brakes replaced for unusually short life. I fully understand that and I'm greatful, but:

Today I brought my G into Torrance Infiniti in CA. I complained of my brakes squeaking loudly (I mean loud!) when backing up only. It turns out they replaced my brakes completely.

Does this mean that I can no longer get a free brake job when they get worn out?

Obviously I will ask the dealer the same question, but I wanted to know what your thoughts are?

thanks guys/girls!

Re: brake letter question

Well, you guys are right! My rep told me today when I picked the car up: "free brakes for the length or mileage specified in the letter" given that there is something I could reasonably tell him is wrong.

He told me that his conversations (with whom I do not know) lead him to believe Infiniti is buying time while they find an acceptable solution for brake pad compound. He said he thinks they will end up going to slotted rotors (I thought that was BS). What I find odd is I mentioned the TSB which says to just replace a shim on the pads due to squeaking in reverse, yet they replaced everything. He did say that the rear pads are a new compound that the wasn't a part last year.

Whatever it is, I'm happy with the outcome so far.

thanks guys!

Re: brake letter question

Huh, my dealer rep. said slotted roters too! It was his understanding that they(infiniti) was looking for a solution, but were only going to offer this at a reduced cost, not in full, change them out.

What gets me is that (Infiniti) keeps saying something is wrong with the short break life. I love that they replace breaks in their period, but if rotors would fix the problem, shouldn't they pay in full?

Re: brake letter question

They're replacing pads and rotors under the new brake warranty and there is a TSB out for the brake shims as well.
They have changed the pads a few times since the G35's were first released and I wouldn't be suprised if it changes again. Also, I wouldn't expect slotted or cross drilled rotors though. That would be very expensive for Nissan and really only act as a cosmetic modification, one which probalby wouldn't help extend pad life at all (unless they change other characteristics at the same time).
