c&d got the coupe to 60 in 5.5 sec and through the quarter in 14.2 @ 100. those are damn impressive times. they gave the nod to the 8 b/c of the better braking and handling and also b/c it was cheaper. well lets see, it weighs about 500 lbs less than the coupe. thats how it got the better braking/handling numbers. oh and btw, they tested a loaded G against a pretty much base 8. of course its gonna weigh less and cost less. the mazda may be a better sports car. but i dont think that its a better bargain, nor a better car. and yes, i think that its ugly as well.........

DrRick....I haven't read the article. What did they run with the SVT Cobra? Recent MT articles have it at 12.8@113mph!
I can justify picking a g35c over a cobra (I did and I used to own Mustangs) because of luxury, body style, fit&finish, etc, but from a pure performance perspective, it shouldn't even be a close match. Cobra by a long shot!

 

i dont actually have the mag, but it was posted on my350z.com. for comparison, the 8 ran it in 5.9 and 14.5 @ 96. and they had to drop the clutch at 8 grand to achieve those times. in a street start (5 - 60) it took 7.5 sec. but the fact that someone (anyone) can get a coupe to 60 in 5.5 sec does my heart good. now if i could figure out how to launch this beast.......

I hear ya! 5.5 is very impressive but you have to remember that driver probably drove it like he stole it!
I like to lead foot my cars but the older I get the less and less I rag on them.

 

5.5 seems a bit optimistic...most other editorials get between 5.9 and 6.1 .

 

ya 5-.5 seems a little to fast for the Coupe i have see most get it at 5.8-6 sec. What i dont get is they tested the cobra against it. Last test I saw for a cobra was against a Corvett.

 

I know a lot of you have already stated that you didn't read the article but if you do you'll understand their results. They say the G was the unanimous choice as the long-distance cruiser. In the 12 categories they rated, 11 of the 12 were very close (2 or 3 points between 1st and 3rd). In the features and amenities category the G got a 10, the RX-8 a 5, and the Cobra a 4. So basically all of the cars were dam near even until it came down to how nice the car was put together by the designers and all the bells and whistles we get. We lost 94-93 and the mustang got an 89. Quit bitchin and enjoy your rides. I know some of you don't want to believe it but there are people out there that don't like the G.

TO ME .. and I'm sure the majority of the rest of us, its the winner ... OUR WINNER.

I love the car and no version of rx8 or stang will beat it ... thats why I bought it

Don't forget that they were testing sticks.. and the G lost major points on the "feel" of the stick versus the RX-8's silky smooth shifter. If they had compared auto's, the G probably would have won the competition, because the RX-8's low torque is not as suitable to auto trans.

 

Had a Red RX-8 pull up next to me in traffic last week on the 405 in So. Cal. Man that thing is butt ugly! Had dealership plates on it so I'm sure it was a special pre-order. The guy was just itchin to race. I mean here we are inchin forward traffic and he keeps leavin 40 extra feet so he can zoom zoom zoom in first gear. Seemed pretty quick though, I don't think it matters too much about torque on rotaries but I fon't know much about them. I stil wouldn't trade it for the looks or the build quility, plain and simple.
