Re: RX8 beats G35C

"Beats" it how? In 0 to 60? That's an odd comparison they put together. The RX-8 is a pure sports car. The G35 is a luxury-sports car. The Mustang... is a Mustang. The only thing they have in common is an emphasis on performance (defined very differently for each) and front engine/rear drive configurations.

I'd think a more appropriate comparison would be a RX-8 to a 350Z.

But the RX-8 is indeed great. True enthusiasts (which I cannot afford to be) ought to find room for a rotary engine in their stable. Nothing like a car that pulls even harder at 7500 rpms and up. Don't care at all for the dopey front styling though.

I agree. The same person looking at a RX8 would be looking at a 350Z, not a grandtouring car like a G35C. Anybody who put's that much emphasis on "sport", would most likely just ditch the 2 rear seats, anyway. But that RX8 must be doing something right. It sure isn't looks! That damn thing is ugly!

In just straight up performance I can't see how it beats the coupe. Don't you have to wind that thing way up til it even starts to pull. By the time that baby even gets close to its max torque we would be long gone in our G's wouldn't we? Also, I may be wrong on this but isn't the RX-8 only rated at 160 lbs of torque. I thinkl we would blast the A$$ off that thing at the line.

The rx-8 is a 4 seater
it can compete with a g35 coupe. a 2+2 350Z.

On a brighter note, the coupe beat the SVT COBRA

Re: RX8 beats G35C

I saw the rx8 (mazda evolution) in person at mazda days at Laguna Seca. I thought it was really nice and looked into it right away. The pictures don't really give it justice, it looks a lot nicer in person.

The fact that it was a 4 seater 4 door sports car is what attracted me to it, since I have to worry about a baby seat. Didn't phase me that it was 4 racing seats.

I know we have pride in our new G35's, but be open to new cars comming. All cars deserve a good clear evaluation and if the Rx8 out performs the G35coupe then good job Mazda. Nissan will be forced to come up with a solution to make the g35coupe better or back to the drawing boards. For die hard Nissan fans it's a good thing.

If Nissan created the G35coupe untouchable, it wouldn't change for a long time. Competition just makes things better. Look at the poor NSX, the thing hasn't even had a face lift in years. I thought Honda was supposed to throw out the new body design this year, hopefully for sure in 2004. The Supra is supposed to come back too.

Re: RX8 beats G35C

I just saw the RX8 in person at the local auto show and in my opinion it is hot. It has just enough clues to let you know it's still a Mazda RX# but new enough that it's not the same old same old....it's nice to see other cars with new styling. The first words out of my fiance's mouth, when we saw it was, "can we have one?"

Re: RX8 beats G35C

So it was Mustang Cobra? LOL
Don't they run 1/4 in 13 sec flat and goes 0-60 in sub 5 sec?
I don't really care about RX-8 beating G35 coupe but.. beating a Cobra in performance is little bit odd. I haven't looked at the article but if was only performance wise the mustand should have took the first place.

RX-8 doesn't look that bad .. seriously, I thought it was ugly looking but then again it is beautiful car. You just need to get used to it.

G35 coupe is still a good car but lets not try to rate our car so high. There are some cars that handles better and better value etc.

But then again as performance wise Mustand should have won! however I don't think it was all performance based test. More of everything combined, price, performance, fun factor and other stuff.

Yea I don't think it is clear that the RX beat the Coupe on performance, they probably just liked its sportiness or something. And the Stang most definitelt spanks both on performance (at east straight-line acceleration).

Re: RX8 beats G35C

Rotary engines are pretty wicked machines. A buddy used to have an RX 7. Not sure how they'd be in the long haul though. I think he said something about having to get a whole new engine rather than getting any major repair work done as they were virtually impossible to rebuild. Also, gas mileage sucked big time! I agree with you about the looks of the RX8. I loved the doors and rear access.

Re: RX8 beats G35C

I think the RX-8 is a great idea and will be a hit. In fact, I came *this* close to ordering one. Why didn't I?

1) No torque. If it just had 40 more lb/ft, I could have overlooked this.
2) Not coming out until May - unfortunately (or fortunately?) I need a car now. So the G35 Coupe is the pick.

But really, I don't understand why everyone rags on the Rx8 so much!? It's a nice car. It has MORE SPACE in the back than our G35 Coupes! And it will most likely handle better (not that I want it to handle better than my Coupe, but come on, it's 400 lbs lighter and has 50/50 weight distribution).

Of course, it's not as knock down BEAUTIFUL as my G35 Coupe, but ya know, that's a subjective thing. Some people will think the Rx8 is prettier..

Peace,

Chaster
