Tinted Windows

I am thinking about getting my windows tinted on my G. I keep going back and forth and am not sure. I had one person I spoke to bring up some good pointers (i.e. dot matrix on rear window, windows and the fact that they roll down a 1/2" when door is open, etc.). The dealer where I bought my car from recommended a place as this guy does a lot of aftermarket stuff for them, so he has worked on other G35s. I think it is titanium (if that sounds right) and they are only charging me $225. Any advice?

Re: Tinted Windows

go somewhere else and get it done for like 150 or so.

they say 225 cause you pay the dealer and then they pay the tint person. cut out the middle man.

also i would not do with reflective tint because of the big black strip inbetween the door windows and the rear windows.

depending on how dark you want to go, i would go with a charcoal tint maybe somewhere in the 30 range. it sounds like you dont wan tit to be that dark.

Re: Tinted Windows

I guess it depends on where you are. In MD I wouldn't pay more than $150. It also helps if you're interior is graphite. I have 35% and it looks much darker due to the interior.

Live in the MD/DC/PA/VA area?

SFLG35: Actually, the dealer told me the name of the place and who to speak to and to not go through them because they would charge more. My friend got his Maxima done at a place where he knows, and they charged him $200. I didn't think $225 was that bad. I would like about 35% tint all around. Thanks.

Re: Tinted Windows

I had mine done all the way around except for the windshield and paid about 175. and i didn't have any issuer with the anti pinch rolling the window down a bit each time.

STARTERTAN: Yes, I live in PA and do have the graphite interior and I heard that makes it look darker. Thanks.

DUNBAR: Where do you live or where did you have it done? How about the Dot Matrix on the rear windshield? What about what SFLG35 said regarding the reflective tint and the black strip between the windows on the side of the car?

Re: Tinted Windows

I live just outside of St. Louis, as for the dot matrix on the back window, they said they just use a piece of vinyl for the top of the rear window. I had to take it back once cause it wasn't sticking in a couple of very small spots on the dot matrix part, but it was a quick and easy fix for them, A place called wicked stickers did the tint for me.

Re: Tinted Windows

I think the price you pay depends on where you live basically. I think you shouldn't pay more than $225 though.

Dot Matrix: I was worried about this also. Some places say that they just leave that part undone, which is ugly IMO. I eventually got it done where the guy said that he could either sand it down or use some type of gel where the dots were so that the tint would sit flush. I don't know what he did but it came out perfectly.

Re: Tinted Windows

DUNBAR: Thanks. I use to live in St. Louis in University City but that was a long long time ago. I have been back once a few years ago and things had really changed.

Well, we will see. Thanks for the advice. I am still deciding whether to do it or not.

Re: Tinted Windows

In terms of whether to do it or not, I would say that you should. It makes the car look much better and will help keep the interior cooler in the summer.

AL503: Yeah, I agree with you in that the dot matrixs should be done. Thanks.

Re: Tinted Windows

Keep in mind, im pretty sure coupe and sedan tint prices are different. A lot more work involved to tint the sedan I think. As for the dot matrix, go with a place that uses a special gel or glue specifically for that area as was previously mentioned. Also look for lifetime warranty against bubbles, peeling, discoloration, etc.

Re: Tinted Windows

AL5032nd response) Didn't think about that, but yeah it would be a lot cooler. Good point. That just made my decision go from a 50/50 to a 70/50.
