Just gave my G its first hit of CRACK!

Well, with the RT Cats and the Z-Tube/JWT Popcharger in place, and with the help of DED, Demonteverde, and a good friend Mike, I installed the Crawford Plenum today. WOW... The kit was lacking 2 washers, loctite, and any resembelance of good instructions, but with a little work and thought I think we got everything right (having someone from the Porsche GT Racing team help with modifications is always a plus ). The throttle response has increased from good, to insane! The air flows through the engine SO MUCH MORE than before it is amazing. You can hear a deeper exhaust tone with this set-up and the Cats are not as raspy as before. I'm very happy with the new plenum and looking forward to my next mod...

Thanks DED for driving to Home Depot to p/u the loctite and thanks Ian for paying for it. You guys were a big help.

There will be a new thread by either DED or Demonteverde with photos to show some of the steps in the near future...

I'm STOKED!!!

Re: Just gave my G its first hit of CRACK!

Everyone was invited, including you Josh. I didn't send out invitations, but that doesn't mean you weren't invited. Bithlo anyone? I'm ready now...

This mod was a little harder (for Mike to do) than it was for the Z-Tube install. I helped as much as possible, but the experienced gear head simply took over once he showed up. Ian was the best "cup holder" and "picture taker" that I could have asked for , and DED was the man of the day with the quote, "I'm not touching anything! You're not going to blame me if this thing blows up". Very supportive thing to say to a guy who has his engine opened up while the internals are staring at you! Also, with the help of a Fresh Alloy member Boones, I got the proper torque specs and tightening sequence for the plenum. That was a great help, as 41 to 61-in.lbs. is barely tight at all. Now I understand how someone could OVER TIGHTEN the Kintex Plenum and crack it VERY EASILY. A good torque wrench is definitely a MUST for this job. IMO there were a couple of things missing from the kit.

1. A good set of instructions, the ones on the internet were for an older version. The set I had did not show much of anything useful. The instructions on G-Owners.com were better, but still not up to speed for the V-5 version. And an 11:00am EST phone call to Doug is all but useless on a Saturday.
2. The kit was missing loctite for the four screws (used as plugs) inside of the plenum. If one of these ever came loose, bye-bye engine.
3. The kit was also missing 2 washers for the long bolt hat went through the plenum. There were “spacers”, but no washers. Luckily I had exactly 2 that were the right size, but they do not match the color of the plenum, oh well.

I too am looking forward to Z-Fest next weekend. I can show you guys the new mods, and hopefully get to see a few blown Z's!!!

Hey Neffster !

Lucky you had the washers, as far as the locktite, the bolts come with the locktite on them in the plastic bag.

Doug is a good guy. You'll love the plenum especially with your other "crack".

G35C - 6MT, DG/G, Aero, BSM, Flaps, Stillen Intake, Z tube, Crawford v5, 6 Wire Grounding Kit, Clear Corners, 2nd Battery (Brake) Cover, Sirius, Momo F16 Evo Shifter, 30% 3M Tint & more to go

Re: Just gave my G its first hit of CRACK!

Actually the loctite was NOT on them. I double-checked with my fingers and they were BONE dry. I also had DED and Demonteverde check to see if they felt any loctite and the results were an anonymous NO. There was some oily substance on the two longer bolts, but the 4 smaller ones were dry. Anyway, no harm no foul. I just wanted to inform anyone who may be doing this mod for themselves to purchase some washers that fit over a M6 screw. They might also want to purchase some loctite just to be safe. Oh yeah, DO NOT attempt this mod without the proper sized torque wrench and an environment with still air. Wouldn't want junk getting inside of the engine or someone to over torque the plenum and crush the usefulness out of the gasket.
