Re: i'm so stupid
hahaha... what the hell would make you want to do that? did it cause any problems for your car? i think that was the funniest story i've heard all day. i don't even know what you look like, but i can just picture someone doing that. i just want to know how did you forget that you have an automatic transmission?

Re: i'm so stupid
don't they put this restriction thing on moving from D to N such as if you don't have brake pedal depressed it won't shift unless you press the button. so if you are in D and starting up at stop light, you are probably not braking, so i don't see how it let you go into N and rev.
Re: i'm so stupid
I've never had a tranny where they restrict it from going to Nuetral from Drive.

not from neutral to drive, but from drive to neutral they do have this switch at the shifter they doesn't allow you to shift unless you press the button if you don't have the brake pedal depressed
Re: i'm so stupid
To reverse or park. Or out of park, but you want to be able to put it in nuetral somtimes (only two places to start a car, nuetral and park)

Re: i'm so stupid
LOL I did this once too but it was not as severe as yours. I was making a left turn and thought I was in Manual Mode. I shifted up to nuetral and took car up to 4k rpm. I immediatly shifted into D and rode away.

Re: i'm so stupid
wow i never really thought people could do that... everyone does it to the maxima i drive when i let them drive it. it's automatic. but the drive and the 3 are right next to eachother so they keep thinking that they can change the gears. i sometimes just do it by accident because my hand stays on the shifter.

Re: i'm so stupid
You've seen the interior of the G right ???? ...
there is a little "area" on the shift line where you can slide over the shifter from the park,neutral,"3", Drive area so that you can upshift or downshift by pushing the shifter level up (duh) or down (yah).....
which gives the driver the option of going from the automatic shifting transmission like in your maxima over to a "manumatic" or a manual type shift .. where as the driver can change the gears when needed or wanted as opposed to the car changing the gears "AUTOMATICALLY".... hence automatic..
