accordfreak, it was only early 2001 M3 models that blew up. And they didn't really "blow up"..it's such an overexaggeration. The problem is that they are extremely high-strung motors (I believe 11.0:1 compression ratio)....true that the event should NEVER happen to ANY M3, BMW was quick to resolve the issue.

And yeah, the M3 is definitely NOT overrated. For a base MSRP of $46K, you get a car that is a proven champ on the track.

Overrated my ***. M3 is a killer car. The ones that blew up were 2001 models and as long as I can remember it was for a short production run of maybe couple of months then BMW resolved the problem. The only thing that makes the M3 expensive are the overprice options. All BMW are cheap considering what you get its just that all of the "cant live without" items such as xenons, moonroof etc... are way overpriced. BMW is trying to fix that and its evident in the new 5 series. Nicely loaded 530i with sport and premium packages is around 51-54K where as a MBZ E320 with similar options is anywhere in 55-60k. Anyway I went off topic with this but definetly try to get the M3 man it is a hot car.
