Weird noise between shifts...

So, drove the car (2006 coupe) back from NC. Ran great, awesome running motor, but I have a concern over the sound it makes between shifts.

If I rev up in 1st or second, etc. under load (Nothing like to red line or anything) and then push the clutch in to shift to the next gear, the motor obviously drops revs slightly. The motor on this car drops revs slowly which I think is normal... Maybe helps with shifts as the rpms don't drop rapidly and creates a jerk???

Anyways, push the clutch in and I get a GRRRRRR noise and then it goes away once in gear and accelerating. Not a whine, not a knock or anything...

Is it just simply the engine noise and maybe a bit of tranny noise? Haven't driven any other coupes other than this one we bought so, may be normal.

I know there's a BEAUTIFUL gear whine when accelerating. I could listen to that all day. It just seems a little rough between shifts in terms of noise... I don't think it is a clutch pressure plate or anything as there is no vibrations or anything similar when in gear and rolling out of the throttle while still in gear.

It is only when you push the clutch in and the revs down before the engaged next gear...

Make sense? I may have to record it...

Well not sure what you are referring to...but our cars make all sorts of funny noises so it may be normal. Maybe you should record it.

i'm pretty sure that's the flywheel. i remember mine used to do it anywhere over around 4,000 rpm. some people like the sound... to me it always sounded like crap.

Yeah, flywheel was what I thought it was. With only 22k miles on the ticker, I can't imagine it is bad or needing replaced, etc.

The car is not a freindly car in terms of starting out in first gear and with the revs coming down slow, it is easier at a higher rev than at a lower one, but man, the noises it makes is kinda crappy... Well, except under load. That gear whine...

Anyways, may be normal. Firgured you all would chime in enough to settle my nerves... I searched and searched, but only found issues relating to knocking and stuff...

Have the whine sound and since new. Sounds like a mild SC whine lol. That noise hasn't gotten worse and pushing 30K on odo, so I'm not worried about that.

Your Grrrr noise while shifting is not something I've experience with my 06. Is it a grind noise? That would be a syncro issue grinding into next gear. Record your Grrrr noise if possible.

It's not a noise when going into the gear itself. It is when the motor is accelerating and i push the pedal down to shift to the next gear. In not doing speed shifting, the RPMs drop a tad and that is when I hear the GRRRR noise. Like the motor is dropping revs and it is engine noise, but the noise isn't the same when I am at a stop and rev the motor and let the RPMs drop w/o load.

I'll record tonight when the wife gets home...

floor your car to 5 or 6,000 rpm then just push your clutch in and hold it... u'll hear the grrrrrr as the rpm's come down.

Yeah, that's about right. Is that normal? I've never heard that noise in other cars. i assume it is just something that is part of owning a G35 coupe with 6MT...?

Done that before many times at that rpm, but I don't hold it...I shift quick into 2nd and let clutch out quick. Never had that sound so don't know what to say beyond that. I'd really have to hear OP's 'Grrrr' to understand what is trying to be diagnosed here. Then again, at that rpm my Injen exhaust is ROARING, so maybe that why I don't hear this Grrr sound lol

Anyway...hope this sound you ppl hear is normal and isn't an issue

My 06 MT (20K) does the same thing.

I took it into my local Infinity dealership and had a tech go out for a drive to reproduce the sound. I had him REV the car in 2nd up to 5K RPMs and press in the clutch. The tech verified the "GRRR" sound and said it might be the flywheel.

Just typical noise from the flywheel or it is going bad kinda noise? I'm going to schedule a dealer visit to make sure it is legit and just "normal".

Doesn't really bother me, sounds very raw. But I do have the same sound when shifting under heavy load.

I was going to, but it sounds like everyone else has the same or similar sound between shifts. Was in a buddy's 05 and it sounded similar...

I'll try, though...
