Trunk Rattle
Trunk Rattle
I have the Top Speed exhaust and it rattles the rear and sides of the trunk, it seems. Basically its the whole lower rear wall of the trunk and around the wheel wells towards the rear side of the car, where there are those sheet metal supports that let you reach back behind the wheel wells.. kind of. Hard to explain that part, but basically everything behind the rear wheel wells seems to rattle at about 3-4k rpm, especially in 3rd gear. It's a thin metal on metal type of rattle/dinging.
So far I've tried:
- removing the OEM muffler heat shield (since the Top Speed mufflers are so small and are much lower than the shield is designed for, so I hope this is safe, haha)
- sound deadened the whole trunk, basically (sides as far as I could reach in and around the upper side of the quarter panel, trunk floor, trunk rear, most of the speaker bar, rear strut towers)
Anyone got a similar issue? When I did the trunk I thought it went away, but I was wrong. I have this closed-cell foam that I could cut out and glue on top of the butyl matting for further sound insulation, but I'm not sure this will do anything to fix this rattle. The sound deadening did fix some other minor rattles and made the exhaust sound inside the car more "solid," so I'm not that disappointed.
The thing that makes me mad is I can't pinpoint where exactly it's coming from... it's just a metal dinging/rattling somewhere back there. So please let m know if you have a fix or some suggestions.
