Differential / Coolant Fluids
Differential / Coolant Fluids
When I went to Mr. Lube the other day to get my oil changed, they said that my rear differential/coolant fluids should be flushed or what not. They quoted me about $90 (CAD) each.
How often do you guys get these done? My car is an '05 with 24,000 miles.
Also, at what point do brakes/rotors normally need to be replaced? (How can I tell if they are getting old?)

All those intervals are in your manual, or you can search and likely find them here on the site. 20 bucks worth of gear lube and half an hour of your time would get you a better job than Mr. Lube, I'm sure. They'll tell you anything to get your money.
Rotors should be measured with a micrometer and compared to the minimum recommended thickness. At 24k you are *probably* good.
Be sure to sign up in the Western Canada registry and think about coming to the June 7 meet in Sylvan Lake!

Coolant is simple and so is diff fluid... It is a simple DIY. Change your Diff Fluid if you are being super hard on your car and drift every corner! Otherwise if you are a "normal" driver you have nothing to worry about.

I'd highly recommend a diff fluid change.
I did one after ~10K & got a big plug of grey goop on the magnetic drain plug.
After that follow the interval in the manual.
If you're going to DIY (very easy) get a diff fluid hand pump.
It makes the job a Piece of Cake

I currently live in an apartment building, so won't have my own garage/driveway for a couple years at least.... I'm hoping to get away with having Midas or Mr. Lube or whoever do it for me for the next little while
