Here are a couple of photos of my engine bay. I know its dirty but if anyone could tell me if there is something different besides the plenum and intake that would affect the shift speed of my tranny that would be great. THX!

Maybe it has an aftermarket valve body.

Did you put that JDM battery cover on your car? (the cover on the driver side of the car) If you didnt maybe there is something done to the tranny. Just make sure the oil level is good and not low.

I have a 2004 Coupe 6MT and although not an auto my engine cover is way different don't know if they changed the cover from 2003 to 2004. Mine is a Canadian model...but you might have some type of Mod.

Duh! now I see why. The cover you have is part of the intake.
Beer and surfing...not good!..LOL

Mine definately does not shift fast like your describing. In fact it's rather dissapointing. Tolerable, but not great. I'm still coming to terms a little with buying an auto as it's my 1st one, but the truth is I'm mostly in traffic anyway.

In terms of rev up (or lack there of), I noticed I can almost blip the throttle to help rev match in auto stick mode. Any danger in that? It smooths out the shift decent amount.

I need to search on this grounding kit? Is it a recommended mod?

This intake cover isn't stock. I cant seem to find out which one it is. On the front of the cover there is a line hookup thats stopped off. I think this is used only in cold areas for a heat line to warm the intake but I'm not sure. I dont think that the intake would improve the shifting only something done to the tranny would. Anyway if I was you I'd be happy.

doesn't look like there's any aftermarket grounding kit on there. I have the georgee one and there are additional wires attached to the existing grounding points. my '06 5AT shifts pretty poorly in manual mode even with the grounding kit installed. only way i know of improving the shifts is through a transmission valve body upgrade.

I take it you're talking about how long it takes to shift in manual mode? Mine is quicker than I expected. My wife has a Mazda 6 and the manual shift mode on that takes forever to change gears. I thought it was malfunctioning when I first tried it. By comparison, my '04 G is instantaneous. Trust me, slow shifts or not, it could be worse.

My G shifts pretty damn quickly for an auto, no grounding kit or any mods. (although I do have a power cell which keeps my voltage at exactly 12v all the time)

^^Like somone above said if i am in triptronic mode and i come to a stop going into first is kinda rough or jolty sometimes, but this is only when it is in 2nd prior to the stop. If it is in 3rd or 4th then it shifts smoothly as it stops. This also happens sometimes going up from 1-2 if i've been hotrodding it and shifting close to redline about 10 or so times in a few minutes, then it will start to shift a little sloppy from 1-2.

Yea I have an 03 and it does that sometimes with 1st gear. I have about 38000 miles on it. At 30000 I had the tranny flushed at the dealer so I dont think its a fluid problem. I have heard of people having tranny issues though with the autos.
