Better Gas mileage?

Going tomorrow morning to pick up my new 07 g35 coupe. I used to have a truck so I dont know as much for cars but I was wondering what you guys would recommend for me to get a little better gas mileage. I was thinking Intake or exhaust. Let me know what you guys think and I am glad to be part of the g35 community I am sure you will see me on here alot lol.
Thanks

An intake or exhaust wont really help gas mileage. The only way to help gas mileage is to keep the shifts low and use cruise control on highways. Keeping up with the scheduled maintence also helps a lot with gas mileage.

A Z-Tube and aftermarket drop-in filter helped me get a consistent 1.5 or so MPG across the board without changing my driving habits at all. I owned the car for about a year with the stock intake setup, and then put on the Z-Tube and a K&N filter and my economy was that much better immediately, and hasn't fallen off at all since then. Last year I switched out my K&N drop-in filter for an Amsoil EA-Nanofiber filter because I was noticing a lot of light dust/dirt on the clean side of my intake pipe(meaning it was getting let by the K&N filter rather than caught in it). Since making the switch, I haven't seen a real significant fuel economy change, but my intake pipe is always clean now and my oil seems to be noticeably cleaner whenever I change my oil than what it was when I had the K&N on there.

A tip for good gas mileage?

Seriously guys,

Come on I have a flux capacitor, tornado magneto that gives 50MPG to sell yah.

It's a luxury sports car. If you want good gas mileage get a scooter or a 2 cylinder car.

You got to pay to play. Or better yet ride your bicycle to work and drive your G on the weekends. That's what I do.

sorry to be negative but I see the better gas mileage post every week.

Why even bother responding with such a numb reply like that? A G35 is hardly the kind of car that you buy strictly to play with. It's a compromise between performance/sport and luxury that won't break the bank to buy and makes a perfectly fine daily driver.

With gas prices at almost $4 a gallon and some specialists stating that they may possibly double within a year(not that I really believe that), I don't see why anyone would not want to optimze their fuel economy if it can be done in a fashion that doesn't hurt the cars overall performance..... either way, criticizing someone for doing so is blatantly ignorant.

these aren't ferrari's or lamborghinis

they're $20,000 cars that are a mix of luxury and sport...hardly a car someone that is wealthy enough to not care about fuel economy would buy

Maybe $20,000 used... I paid $32,000 back in 2003 (but mine is paid off now)

FYI, neither luxury nor sport are typically associated with fuel economy.

To everyone else that is worried that they're paying too much for gas:

Anyone that really cares about fuel economy shouldn't buy a car with a 3.5L engine making 280+ HP that says on the window sticker that the best fuel economy you'll *EVER* see is ~28mpg (and you should know this is acheived only by going downhill in 6th gear at 45mph with the A/C off).

Of course nobody saw today's gas prices coming if they bought their car more than a year ago, but it's still not that bad. If you seriously think that getting a couple extra mpg is going to help your bottom line, then just slow the fukc down. If you really want to get way better mileage that'll make more than a few dollars' difference, buy a Yaris or a motorcycle and only drive the G on weekends.

I was able to increase my mileage by shifting before 2500 RPM and not going faster than 65mph ever (using cruise control)... I went from 20mpg to 22mpg mixed city/highway driving. By today's prices, that's about a gallon per fillup or $4/week or $200/year... it's not insignificant but I'm not sure it's worth the effort and constant restraint I have to exercise against my right foot every time I pull away from a traffic light. None of this applies to anyone driving 1000 miles a week or more - if you are, you should have already bought a Yaris, wtf are you thinking?

So far I've reached 300 miles from a full tank.. I'm a tad under 1/4 tank and the light hasn't come on yet. That with some aggressive driving and 3 dyno pulls

Joe Camel, your sig made me splatter saliva all over my screen

Yea I know I am not expecting great gas mileage Im just looking for a little boost. My dodge truck which has a 6" lift on 35" tires was giving me 10.7 miles to the gallon, so driving this g35 is like a prius to me lol

The #1 thing that is going to help your gas mileage is your driving style. Baby the car(hard to do on these cars) and use your cruise a lot like someone else said. All the upgrades intake, exhaust, etc are questionable if they really help or not. On average I get 25mpg with a mix of city and interstate driving.

yup

From 10mpg to 20mpg will definitely be a difference.

The standard keep your tires inflated to the proper psi and keeping your foot out of the gas will keep you in the 20 to 22mpg

On another note.

$4.00 a gallon is just the stating point. it will go to $8.00 a gallon.
Soultion? build more refineries and start drilling in Anwar (which we should had done 5 years ago) and off the gulf coast. That will take 10 years to build, it's a strategic ploy anyway to milk all the Arab states dry.

Without taking this thread into a geo political discussion.
The next 20 years are going to be very interesting.

When I was overseas they were paying for gas by the litter at $3.50!
That was over 10 years ago. I can imgaine what it is costing now.

Congrats on the car. There isn't a lot you can do to the car to improve mileage. Drive conservatively is about it.

Only huge difference you can make is the way you drive. Some people say CAI's and other intakes help out. I nought an Injen but i really dont know if it has or if it hasn't. I'll just think it does i guess =)

$20,000 car MY ***! Don't know what kind of crapper people bought for that kind of coin. Don't want to know,
I will agree that they are not exotic Italian automobiles. It does get pretty d@mb annoying reading time after time that people want to use regular gas, or complaining about mod costs. It's an entry-level GT. It's not cheap to buy, own, mod, or maintain. The target market is not Millionaires but also, not $30K aires, ya dig?
Anyway, I also own a 2K SE MAX, a y-pipe and Stillen intake, using cruise control and doing the maintenance seemed to help quite a bit with fuel economy. Congrats on the G.

although MINT examples sell for more...it's not uncommon to find nice g35 coupes for 20k or less
