Stealership Labor

So im going to the dealership to have something installed on my car. Does anyone stand there and watch to time how long it actually takes? Cause i know for a fact that they overcharge on installs and many other places do also. I want my 65$/hr to be used efficiently.

You cant watch were I work because most places are (flat) rate. That means they get paid to do the job on what the book says it takes to do it. For example if it pays 2.3 hours to change a head light, they get paid 2.3 hours weather it takes 1.0 or 5.0 Fast techs make goooood money and slow techs don't last long.

I made friends with the parts guy at the dealership and had them install my exhaust. They fixed my dash in some parts because it was messed up and i dont want to have to mess up what they did by taking it apart by using a DIY. So im gonna have them put in my USA SPEC ipod integration. I was justw ondering if people stand there to make sure they dont charge me way more than what it takes....but it might be a flat rate. I'll call monday

i believe ours here is $100/hr

i'm in canada though...all our techs here have to be certified so the quality of work is usually pretty good

not that i ever take my car to a dealership though fvck the flat-rate system...it's awesome for the techs but it rapes the customer

some techs make a flat rate or some techs make a %age, i know a buddy of mine that works for chevy, her banks, because some jobs that take like 4-5hrs he finishes the job like in 1.5 hrs, he says he gets about $38 bucks per hr jobs flat rate, so thats 38x5 = 190 bucks a 5 hour job in 1 plus hr...pretty good, bad thing is that if the customer comes back he does it for free no matter how long it takes...

Its good and bad. All summer long I don't make much being a painter 30 to 40 hours a week. But all winter I make 90 to 120 hours a week. Awsome money!

Infiniti labor rate here is > $95/hr. I wish it were $65/hr! Even independent shops around me charge $90/hr +.
