VDC Kicks in on Right turns @ 40-50mph (Hwy Exits)

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to see if anyone in the G35 community has had the same issue I have at the moment. The only recent work I've had on the car are new rear brake pads and rear tires (275/35/19 w/ volks).

THE ISSUE:

Sometimes when I enter into an exit from the highway at about 40-50mph the VDC kicks in and it seems to apply the brakes to the rear passenger side wheel. This causes my car to turn sharply to the right and makes a sound like the rear tire is being dragged into the turn. These exits are not like crazy sharp exits either. They're pretty wide, easy going exits and I have never had an issue like this before. I've had about 18k miles on my last set of tires (same measurements) and never had an issue like this.

I check the tire pressure, and everything is good at 39 psi. I checked to make sure the lugs were tight, and everything checked out. I currently have the car at a shop and they are going to try to figure it out, but if anyone has had similar issues or heard of such cases, your help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

-Jim

I bet it's because of the tires. What do you have in the front?

It's the tire size change.. when I first got my 275 tires I had the same issue.

It went away after a few hundred miles.. I think the computer needs to learn the new size or something.

maybe get a wheel allignment?

It only goes off when the rear tires are unbalanced or one is spinning faster.

I had the same problem, when I replaced my rear tires. I switched brands from Michelin Pilot Sport A/S to Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS. VDC would kick in, even on curves at 35-40mph. (Same curves I used to take at 70+)

Anyways, I found that despite being the same "size", the Bridgestones were 1/10" bigger. So I figured that threw off the VDC, especially considering that the 245's that I'm running on the fronts, (as do a lot of other people) are already 1% smaller than stock, so that extra difference on the rears don't help any. So I replaced my front Michelins with the same Bridgestones, and my problems went away...

Did you mix brands front-to-back?

Glad that I'm not the only one with the issue.

I've actually been running the Volk SF challenges for about 2.5 years now. I use Toyo tires and I believe the front measure 245/30/19 or 245/35/19 and the rear have always been 275/35/19. I originally bought the rims with the tires mounted and balanced, and I just recently (2 week'ish) replaced the rear tires with the exact same Toyo T1R's 275/35/19s that I've ran for those 2.5 years. I never had this issue before, and I used to be able to fly through these curves at like 60'ish without an issue like avs007 mentioned.

I guess, there is no set solution to this problem?

Is there a way to like reset the ECU (im assuming :X) to maybe let the car learn this a little faster? Because it is scary as hell when this thing kicks in

Perhaps it's the tire wear....

When I replaced my rear tires, they were down to the wear indicators. My fronts still had a lot of meat left. I measured about 7/32 of tread left, out of 10/32 when new.

Perhaps when you installed new rears, (my bridgestones in a 275 were 11/32 new), coupled with the already slightly worn fronts, made the VDC uneasy.

Maybe your problems went away after a few hundred miles, after you scrubbed some tread off the tires?

I hope this isn't the case, cuz I don't want to have to always buy tires 4 at a time, since my fronts seem to wear at 1/2 the rate as the backs.

its def the tire size, it probably uses tire speed front vs back to determine if vdc is necessary

It happens to me when I only change my rears. It's because you did not replace the front tires. The rear is gripping better than the front. The VDC realizes this and kicks in. Drive with VDC off or replace front tires.

Just stay with the factory Michellin and upgrade to the PS 2 sport if you have aftermarket rims.

No vdc coming on unless you spin or do something out of the ordinary and you can still go around corners at 70mph (if you have the sport tuned suspension package).

I doubt it has anyhting to do with grip. I was seeing this problem on mild curves, where there wouldn't be any slippage even if I was driving a prius wearing skinnies.

I'm almost positive the problem has to do with size.
