You should walk/ bike/ or take a bus to work... 5 min away is not worth the wear and tear on your car...

I have gotten 450 miles on a tank, shifting at 2000 rpms, which puts me in 6th be 50mph haha. Not so much fun, but saved some gas.

As you said, that is with very, very conservative shifting...and not much fun at all

From what I've gathered in both this thread and many others I've researched on, this is what I've concluded:

On average, I think realistically the average G Coupe owner can look for ~330-350 a tank with freeway driving and 300-320 a tank with city driving.

Anything below that, little too heavy on the foot...anything above that, more on the conservative side of driving a G Coupe.

Hope this thread helps out a few folks on determining if their gas mileage is where it needs to be for their driving habits/environment.

I recently drove up to Costa Mesa from San Diego, and rolled around 70-75 (mostly 70) on the way up, and I got a shade under 400 on that tank when all was said and done... about 24MPG on that tank.

For all those with NAVI, how accurate do you think the fuel economy reading is? Mine says I avg. about 22-23 mpg's. That would be about 26 highway @ cruise, 70mph, and about 12-13 city, stop and go.

I don't have navi, but I think 22-23mpg is about accurate for a mix of stop and go as well as highway driving. I do about 50/50, and I'm getting the same mpg.

Could be. You can shift at much lower RPMs in MM.

Gas consumption is all about driving style. Has very little to do with RPMs actually, but more about throttle position/how far you push the pedal in.

You can test this out if you have NAV by picking any gear and going the same speed and coasting @ say 45mph in any gear, you are always going to get about the same gas mileage reading (maxing out the instantaneous meter) as long as your foot isn't on the gas/barely pushing down regardless of 1,500 or 5,500 rpm. Obviously 5,500 is consuming more than 1,500 but it's much much more affected by throttle position.

Finally, I managed just a shade over 29mpg on the highway the other day on a trip to Cleveland. I did it in perfectly normal time not like I was doing 50 and ***** footing so it took 3 hours, but just driving in an interesting way.

I would speed up any time I was on a down slope to 80 or just a bit more and let the car do minimal work to maintain that speed, and any time I was going uphill, I would slowly back off on the gas to not maintain 80 but go about 60-65 uphill. That's it.
Basically I maximized time coasting and didn't use more than just enough engine power to keep me going at the right speed for the right grade.
It worked beautifully and I got to 29.5mpg until I got near Cleveland where the city driving dropped it to 29.2...but not bad for a highway trip.

Finally I tend to get around 400-420 a tank with mostly highway and around 350-375 otherwise with more city for about 16-17gal...granted I don't drive around like I stole it most of the time...thats my 0.02 for those of you who want to save gas.

That was a great point. Even if you were in 6th gear doing 50mph but at 90-100% throttle, it would absolutely consume more fuel.
