Alarm upgrade

Has anyone done any upgrades to the stock alarm? Spoke to some ppl and they said it's difficult to add options such as glass, shocks etc sensors to the stock alarm. I really want to avoid having to install another alarm just for these options...

Ideally I would like it all to be linked to the factory remote. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Alarm upgrade

Go to the FAQ section. There's a DIY for a shock sensor add-on for about $25. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for but for the price you can't beat it.

Re: Alarm upgrade

I helped SixFive do the shock sensor mod. I haven't done it to my car yet, but I will in the future. One suggestion I have is insead of putting the shock sensor under the hood put it under the dash where they are designed to go. Also, instead of tapping into the hoodpin wire hook it up to the door pin wire. This way, when someone bumps your car it will turn on your domelight so you can see what is going on in your car. The only problem with this is that you have to power the shock sensor ONLY when the car is OFF. If you power it constantly your dome light will stay on when you drive becase the vibrations of the car will trip the shock sensor. This is easy to do with a relay on the ignition wire.

Also, I have came up with a module to raise the windows using the factory alarm remote. Check out the technical forum for the post 'Windows up with OEM remote.'

I'm currently working on a sunroof module that will add the ability to vent and close the sunroof from the remote. And I've started working on an interface that will allow you to use a dual stage shock senson with the factory alarm, complete with a warn away circuit that will flash the lights and honk the horn.

It is possible to modify the stock alarm.

Re: Alarm upgrade

the other problem is that when bumped (and using the door switch), the window will drop for anti-pinch. Thats ok if its a thief, not ok if its a downpour and thunder sets it off.

Re: Alarm upgrade

Hmmm.... Never thought about that one. Have you tried this? I would be interested to see how far the window goes down if the door stays shut. Is it really far enough for rain to get in? The signal from the shock sensor lasts approx. 1 second when the 2nd stage is tripped (less then .8 seconds for first stage) so the amount of rain would be minimal. I guess there are trade offs between the two methods!
