Yes, the crank bolt needs to be taken off to get the front timing cover off.

Use the biggest impact gun you can get, literally we've had to use the motor trying to turn over to get the bolt off.

Agreed. Make sure to "pop" the impact gun with your trigger finger. Doing consistent fast pulls of the trigger will break it loose.

With nothing on the other end of the crank it will probably just spin the crank.

I got the heads off today so here are some more pics! I finally got around to getting the correct tools to get the crank pulley off...it really wasnt that hard..I want to know everyones comments on the pics below if you see anything wrong that could of lead to the reason behind it blowing...Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I would like to know!

I thought from looking at the bottom side of the pistons they looked alittle to black to me as if there was to much fuel detonating...but im not 100% sure...Anyways the rust you see is because I had the lower plenum off of the engine for about a month and it was sitting outside for alittle bit..anyways majority of the rust is just surface rust. So it is easy to be cleaned.

Also I checked out the heads and everything looked good. So if anyone is interested in my Heads please dont hesitate to ask for more pictures...I dont know what im going to do with the bottom block part after I remove the crank...it looks alittle damage inside..i Cant tell you until I get the crank off which will hopefully be tomorrow and I can get somemore pics up.

With that being said PIcs will be posted shortly..they are loading in photobucket.

Try vice grips on the nuts that are stripped, you may end up being able to back the studs out.

that is what I was hoping to do...I thought about trying a socket on the star part of the bolt...see if I can start it that way.
