Auto X may actually be quicker under 40-50mph due to lower gearing.

Manual mode tho. FTMFW!DOMO
manual mode would be fine if it didn't lag just as much as putting it in drive

I don't really get the point.

I guess it could be true, The M3 is faster with the SMG tranny.

But i doubt this applies to the G's However some people will say that TIPTRONIC mode is better than 6spM/T cuz you can shift without taking your foot off the GAS.

manual mode is simply for the "sporty feel". it gives the driver the feel of having full control of the car

the only "automatic" i'd drive is a sequential manual lol...but that's technically still a manual.

The SMG transmission is NOT an automatic transmission. It's a sequential manual gearbox. It has a clutch. Only difference between a manual and a sequential is that solenoids do the shifting for you (much faster than a human could ever shift).

I can also shift without taking my foot off the gas in the 6MT

So I'm going to guess that the guy only had AT's on the lot. I'm sure if he was stocked with MT's he sure wouldn't be saying that!

only thing that irks me about our "manual" mode is that the "manual" mode for the 4 speed in a sonata responds quicker and works better. (i'm guessing the newer G's don't have this problem any more)
or should i say: i'm hoping...

I started a thread on this a while back. I drive an 03 5at and the shifting on my car in manual mode is instant. I can shift right at the red line and not bump the limiter. I love auto. My last car was a 328is manual and I just got tired of it. I think the manual mode is pretty good in the AT G's. It also allows you to take it much closer to the redline. I noticed in full auto floored the car still shifts about 3-4 hundred RPM sooner than it needs too. Manual Mode FTW!!!!!

well if your so worried about the up/down shifting lag of a 5AT, just get a 10 wire grounding kit and you'll have instant shifts...problem solved!
