Going on a road trip, Sac to L.A.

Done this drive once before but thought I would see what others experiences go with road trips. I got the pioneer avic and my good buddy is coming along. Last time I forgot to tape up my volks, bad mistake got some light scratches on the lip. Question, should I tape up just the outside of the lip, headlights, bumper?

Also, getting oil changed, new air filter and tires are inflated. Any rule on how often I should stop, maybe let the engine breathe? Last time I drove 5 hours straight.

HELP A FELLOW MEMBER OUT...

Share your experiences...

Yeah just make sure you tape off anything you are concerned about...I drove 9 hours straight with only stopping for normal things like gas, bathroom, and food...You'll be fine.

Is there a reason why we're taking this G on such a road trip?

Is a rental out of the question or is the joy of the trip based on the fact that it'll be done in the G?

I used to drive from LA where I lived/worked to visit my parents up in the Bay Area all the time. Took the 405 to 5 to 152 to 101. Never had any real problems and the car actually did very well on the open 5. Both mechanically and paint. Driving 101 on the peninsula every day after I moved back to the Bay left my bumper looking awful.

the G's designed to be driven. imo if you didnt drive it on trips at least every so often you're missing out on a key aspect of the car.

if you dont have a clear bra, maybe you can tape the bumper... beyond that, as an enthusiast im sure you take care of your car so she's ready... just stop whenever you need to. have fun

Tape up the front and the front of the sideskirts and the rear front part of the bumper..Check out some of the show car pics going to out of town shows. I have a clear bra and so when I drove from Los Angeles to key west FL and Back I didn't worry.

Cool just came back from a road trip SaC-LA. Will have another trip LA-SAC on july 14

I must say driving a G on a road trip is trillion times interesting than a rental car. It makes the 5 hours driving feel like just 1 hour. I cant wait to drive back to Sac. LOL
