6MT Guys - when does your engine lug?
On a test drive the tech at Infiniti flat-out said that any pinging I hear from my engine is strictly lug and that I need to shift at higher RPM. I was somewhat dubious but didn't really have any evidence to the contrary.
My engine definitely sounds like a damn diesel truck if i ever try to give it a moderate amount of gas with the rpm at 2000 or less, and I'm wondering if that's "normal" since I only have my own coupe to drive. How low can you guys run the engine before you encounter lugging?

He should check into the 0-60 mph test done in 5th gear (1:1) by moto-rags, you can literally start the car from a stop in 5th and bring it up to speed.

OP, I've been using cruise control a lot recently. Running 45mph in 6th it'll cruise at around 1500 RPM, I can hear it struggling just a tiny bit when I go up fairly steep hills (which is more than about 1/2 throttle without CC).
Steve, 0-60 in 5th gear... I don't think so man. You'd have to ride the clutch all the way up to like 30 mph just to keep the engine from dying - it's torture and a complete waste of time since *nobody* would ever replicate that. They do 30-50 and 50-70 in top gear (6th) from what I've seen to test real-world freeway acceleration without downshifting, but I only read Car and Driver. If MT or R&T is doing top gear 0-60 runs, I can kinda believe that though, as such a test would be just about as useless as those magazines are.

It's kind of a cool thing how the Z06 can get to around 175 or so from a standstill in 5th gear though... but still doesn't mean a whole lot.

Ugh. I guess I'll try the other dealership around here. In the meantime I'm going to go get some techron and run it through the tank, see if that helps.
One thing I do know is that it definitely lugs less when the car is just starting up, and more once it's warmed up, not sure if anybody can deduce what's going on just from that.
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor MAF, throttle body, air filter, PCV, vaccum lines, fuel filter...
