AReddy22, 1.since your probably the youngest G35 driver in here, 2. You have never driven stick, 3. The car is pretty freakin fast. I would hang with the auto trans. You can get in alot of trouble alot faster driving a stick especially on a quick car. Your ins. might also be a little lower (still insane). But the car has alot of HP and torque which will make it difficult to learn stick on, (I learned on an '82 4 banger mustang). But I would never buy a car or have my parents buy a car, (lucky man), that I or they had never driven. Good luck car hunting!

A piece of advice since you're new to driving: Keep your fingers away from the VDC Off switch. Ask Pestilence how that went for him.

Learning stick on a car usually means you have to give it a clutch job early in life. Other than that, you won't really hurt the car. Just remember that it's better to chirp the tires than to lug/stall the engine.

Re: 6MT VS. AT

Please don't learn how to drive on this car....the manual is tricky enough on this car compared to others that you will not have fun the first few times out.....I would say learn how to drive a manual first then buy this car (a few months won't kill you and the lessons will save you some embaressment in front of your friends)....do not drive it off the lot without at least having TRIED driving a manual.

Re: 6MT VS. AT

noooo, turn VDC off

i took her out for a spin yesterday (-30 outside), turned VDC and watched her slide all over the street. Lol, come to think of it, I did something stupid- since the streets were slick and there was no oncoming traffic at the light by my house, i figured i'd do a 180 in the middle of the interseftion. haha, me=dumbass.

I did it and got stuck in the middle of the street (it's a 4-way street)...fortunately nobody was coming at me, but i was still stuck when the light changed and people were glaring and honking at me...atleast until i figured 'oh, turn VDC back on '

Re: 6MT VS. AT

So I talked to my dad and we're gonna rent a manual car sometime this weekend. If i learn how to drive manual on that vehicle, will it be much different on the G35? I don't wanna start learning all over again. The dealer also said they would be able to deliver the car to my house so I can drive it around the block instead of going on the expressway. I don't know about getting a 5AT. A lot of people will flame me for getting a fast *** "sports car" in auto instead of manual. Thanks.

"i only got a mustang gt for my 16th b-day, then another mutang for graduating hs, and now my G for almost finishing college"

Must be nice! You "only" got a gt for your 16th b-day and are getting a G for "almost" finishing college. Now I know why the future of our great country is in trouble! Please tell me you ARE finishing college and not getting a new car for "almost" finishing college!

For my 1984 HS graduation I got a Cross pen/pencil set...and my parents are well off.
For college graduation they framed my diploma.
For my MBA they took me out to very nice dinner.

I guess I can appreciate MY $584/60 month payments much more knowing I actually payed for/earned it. Or I gotta have a sit down w/ my parents and ask why I didn't get a car!

Yes yes we've all heard this before...please keep in mind this is a forum for "g35 drivers" not "g35 buyers" nor "at least i paid for my g35" and just so you know I also paid for my car myself, every car i've ever owned in fact, but I'm here to talk about the car not how I got it.

Re: 6MT VS. AT

If you're getting it because of what your friends or other people say, you're getting a manual for ALL the wrong reasons. If you are not completely comfortable with a manual and if you think even for a moment that you will find it annoying/troublesome then go with the AT. I picked a stick even though I had limited stick experience because I knew I would enjoy the control and sheer fun it adds.

But you can come close enough with the AT sportshift. You or your parents will be shelling out ~$35k+ for this thing, make absolutely sure you make the right choice on a transmission.

Re: 6MT VS. AT

well, i *almost* graduated from college this year (i'm in actuarial science/stats/ applied stats)

see, i was supposed to graduate next month or whenever it is, but i got really sick last summer(april) and i didn't start getting better until early january......(i'm like 99.5% better now, very little of it left over), so i was forced to miss the fall session so i can't graduate this year. oh well

yea, onc eyou learn to drive a stick it shouldn't take too long to ajust to the g35 MT. i learned on a 1968 volkswagon
...btw, screw what other people think, if u want an auto, get an auto. and if your friends tease you, then do what i do- "okaaaaaay, so you drive a $1000 civic and i drive a 60,000 g35C. Hmmmm, oh yea, what were you making fun of me for again "

Re: 6MT VS. AT

Your dad's pretty smart....beat up the rental car first. I wouldn't worry about it being much different. I learned how to operate a manual transmission as a kid on motorcycles and quickly translated it to a car. My first car was a manual, um.....escort GT. Not quite the sporties car in the world. But, the car I spent most of the time driving was an 86 Mustang GT....and that was a little more fun...but anyway.

I'm all for teenagers having manuals, if fact I think it's a much more intelligent decision. Operating a manual requires the driver to continually focus on what they are doing, which is driving. Not monkeying around with the friends, our checking the hair, but concentrating on the road. Give them an automatic and they can just step on the gas and go, that to me is pretty scary. Go for the stick, every kid (sorry, young adult) should learn how drive one, never know when it will come in handy, and it's just more fun. But make sure to tell your dad that it will require you to pay more attention to your driving, and leave out the fun stuff.

Shoot me a note in about 12 months and I'll teach you about powerbraking.....then you'll really appreciate having a stick.
