G35 Chasis stiffness?

G35 Chasis stiffness?
First, I don't current own a G35 and I am not bashing the car. I found this article on Autoweek previewing the new M45 and it basically stated G35 chasis is pretty loose. The new M will be 30% stiffer in torsion and 1400% in lateral. When I test drove the G it didn't feel that lose. I am sure any road racer or everyday driver can't tell the difference anyways. Question is for the autoXer and the trackers. do you guys feel the weakness?

It's the same difference between the 3 and 5 series. One is way stiffer than the other. I was in a 330i last night driving and it was like a floppy fish compared to g35 so ...the 5 is set up to be the best sports sedan ever or something with a lot more tortional rigidity and longer wheelbase by 10 or 12 inches.

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
When are you ever driving down the road and feel the front left tire and the rear right tire lift up off of the ground? 30% in this case doesn't mean a whole bunch to me. The interesting thing is the 1400%. If I read this right, the car would be stiffer down the centerline of the vehicle (from bumper to bumper). This might have some advantages...
Any thoughts?

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
I think any tortional rigidity anywhere is welcome and helps the car absorb bumps better. 1400% is alot but its for the front only? or something?? 30% for overall rigidity is huge and would make a noticeable difference.

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
Every single redesigned new model has blah blah percent more ridigity. It's all relative, it's all progress and improvement. Doesn't mean the G is loosey goosey. But it's loosey goosey compared to the new car. It's not loosey compared to the last car.
Question is, Is it loose compared to....." ? ".

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
The G35 is not as stiff as say the Subaru WRX (sti) but I do not think its sloppy or stiff i believe its in the middle...unless your running track events every week... i dont think More chassis stiffess to the g35 should be of importance. I think its stiff enough and has no problems with stiffness. But if stiffness is your key element for purchasing a car, then i would say look at an s2000... honda makes great cars and the s2000 has one of the best chassis ever build for road going cars.

No the m45 will have an additional subframe - longer wheelbase and have additional welds. You just have to pay to get into that game.

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but something to consider is that (assuming the new version has similar specs to the current one) the M45 is both longer and heavier than our cars. So for the chassis to perform at a similar level, it has to be more rigid than ours. That at least offsets some of the additional stiffness. Also, my guess is that the torsional stiffness would have more of an impact on driving dynamics.

Re: G35 Chasis stiffness?
You will never really feel chassis stiffness in normal day to day driving, you're really only feeling suspension stiffness/harshness, especially on a stock vehicle. Once you start comparing suspension tuning modifications and how the car reacts to the changes, then you may be able to sorta feel/understand how the stiffness of the chassis affects the tuning, but it's still not really apparent. Well, unless you're a professional driver that test or races cars all day, then you may be able to tune out the rest of the factors...
The stiffer you make the chassis, the more effective the suspension (and any additional suspension tuning) will be. Real racecars use the roll cage not only for safety, but as a chassis/suspension tuning modification.
