I own a g35 auto. As we all know it comes with the manual mode, but of course its not as good as a 6mt. But i was wondering if the manual mode actually helps with acceleration at all?? IS there actually a difference between using the manual mode as oppose to just flooring your car when your racing from a stop?? Can somebody with experience offer their thoughts?

Re: tiptronic

At a 1/4 mile track on average MM mode has been found to be faster than the D mode by about 0.2 seconds. Usually cars with MM modes are faster left in D, a prime example is the Acura TLS. Gas mileage is worse in MM mode however.

Re: tiptronic

LoL, That is true on sunday i put my car into mm just for comfort (downshifting instead of braking cruising on the highway) and i can almost swear i saw the gas needle go down a notch or two after a few minutes of it in mm

Re: tiptronic

i like MM for passing or fast acceleration from a cruising speed. the delay for auto to downshift is way too long...in MM u can downshift and u dont have the delay from flooring it to the car reacting.
As for a 1/4th mil race..i dont know if there is a difference. The AM will shift AT REDLINE while the MM maybe a little early or late but i dont know if there is a difference with a good run.

Re: tiptronic

I agree with dabomb and comfirmed this last Sunday. At WOT just let the auto shift. You'll never be as accurate. Using the GTech, I ran 8 runs some with and some without manumatic. Due to my inaccurate reaction times, I was slower with MM. At WOT the shifts are no crisper on MM than they are with Auto.

Re: tiptronic

What do you mean:
".........but of course it is not as good as 6mt...??????"

Anyone reading this board regularly knows that the difference between the performance of the G Coupe with AT or MT is almost negligible. The choice is simply driver preference.

Stop apologizing.....you are driving one of the best AT's out there. From the some of the discussion on this board, it appears that the jury is still out as to whether MM is faster than just staying in "D,." as different drivers & different test have shown conflicting results.

Re: tiptronic

I still dont get the point of buying an automatic transmission and then driving it like a manual. MM mode is no differnt than the computer shifting the car...all that changes is where it's shifted. I'd assume the auto rides to 6600 so that little itsy bitsy 200 rpms before the cut off is all that you loose in D. Its not gonna ride a gear any different/faster/pull hp out of its a** just because your shifiting it.

Re: tiptronic

People that drive in MM mode does not do it all the time. If they feel like letting loose, they use MM to rev the engine to their liking, if they want to just cruise to relax, they leave it in D, so they have the best of the 2 world. Anyways, please, lets not start again with this AT vs MT war.

Re: tiptronic

its about holding gear as much as anything - ya know like in turns and stuff and while some of us can and wish for MT's all we have it MM mode. It's better than the computer telling us when to shift - even if the HP #' is the same for both cars.

Re: tiptronic

i agree..on top of it...even in MM mode...you will always still get a delay/lag....and it can cost you in corners and what not...cuz when you wanna punch..its not there...yet

Re: tiptronic

EX250...the beauty of it all....is you don't have to get it

I'm not a fool, I don't care what the numbers say. All I know is that 4th to 3rd in MM, is a hell of alot quicker than mashing my gas...and thats from personal experience.

Re: tiptronic

^^^^^^^^^^^^LOL...whoa

anyways. for all you 6mt owners out there with pee sized brains get yourself out to a dealership and try out MM before you comment. I've driven a manual and its GREAT!

that being said lets keep this thread on topic.....MM not....6mt vs. MM. If you don't an AT, shut your trap
