Air Filter Question
Air Filter Question
Hey, so my friend and i just tried to change the air filter on his 2003 G35 and we pretty much did everything correctly. We followed this video on youtube
. However, when we get to the very last part where we have to push the pins back, they are so loose, that we can just pull them back out again. im thinking the pins are just worn out, but im not sure because the thing is so loose, that itll prob just come off when he hits a tiny bump. heres some pics to show what im talkin bout.

in the video at at 6:25, he just pushes the pins back into place, but when we do that it so really really loose. anybody know what the problem is? thanks

Questions....?
Those are push pins! Which means the centers pop up to remove and install.
If you forced them in or out you may have destroyed them. When you install
that air intake with push pins that work there is still slight movement, not to
worry! It's not the size of the pin but using it correctly....LOL

the pins in the photos you posted are broken. If you watch the video, you'll see the center part comes up and then then pin comes out. For installation it's reverse; you need to insert the clip while holding out the center piece. Then, when the clip is in, you push in the center "rod" (your photos) to secure the clip.
Those are generic pop rivets. You should be able to find suitable replacements at Auto-Zone or Pep-Boyz for dirt cheap.
If you can't find ones that fit exactly, I bet the dealer will probably have them in packs of 2 or 4 for like 3 or 4 bucks(which is a ripoff, even though it's still cheap).
You probably broke them by taking them off wrong. The way you take them off correctly is to take a flathead screwdrive to the head of them and stick it under the middle piece and then pry upward. This will pop up the center pin away from the rest of the rivet and release it so the entire rivet assembly comes out of whatever it is holding in place.

Are 2nd gen. G's a different procedure?
Just wondering since I just turned 10,000 miles on replacement filter on my '06 6MT. Don't remember all those steps..(been 2 years ago--yep I don't drive it much !)TIA
