How soon before the delivery date to your dealership were you able to get access to your car's VIN?

I was able to get mine 2 months after I ordered, which was 1 month before delivery. I think the VIN is available once the car is off the assembly line.

My dealer is telling me he may not have the VIN until a week before delivery. I'm wondering if he is full of it.

I had my VIN several weeks before the car came in.

There were a bunch of old posts on this topic, you should be able to seach and find a pretty good timeline from order to delivery.
