eBay Brembo Rotor Ripoff - What to do?

So I bought some OEM Brembo rotors advertised as having only "about 200 miles" on them when they were taken from an 07 Nismo 350Z and "Consequently, the brake rotors are still new". I emailed the seller and asked about any warping issues or if they were run at the track. The response was "they are in perfect shape, i used just for about 200 miles".

When they arrived I took them to Pep Boys and had them measured. Turns out the thickness on the fronts ranged from 29.64mm to 29.82mm, compared to 29.97mm for new ones. The minimum thickness for the fronts is 28.4mm so doing the math it appears that 10 to 20 percent of the useable thickness is gone. Seems unreasonable for only 200 miles. I was expecting only a few percent, and hoping I wouldn't have to have them turned. The mechanic said he could guarantee they had more than 200 miles and they definately needed to be cut before installing new pads.

The rears were almost as bad... up to 15 percent wear.

So what to do? I paid with Mastercard through PayPal. Is this something that can be disputed through PayPal? Do the rotors really need to be turned? Any input appreciated.

Thanks.

You can call your CC company and have them cancel the payment. They will give you your money back and go after thier money getting it back from the individual or paypal. Atleast this is my experience

BEFORE YOU CUT THEM, First, email the seller and tell him your findings. Tell him you want, either, SOME money back, or you will return them for a refund. If he balks, THEN tell him about the CC chargeback. Second, notify ebay. COVER YOUR AZZ!

As a side note: Today most rotors are "throw aways". You are lucky if you get to cut them once.

Doesn't PayPal frown on doing a CC chargeback? And does anyone know about challenging the deal through Paypal?

Paypal should cover your *** also, I would call them and see and if they give you any hassle do the chargeback, who cares if they frown on it if they won't do anything to make it right.

Paypal is notorious about not caring about charge backs. Good luck on that.

contact the seller and ask for refund, stating your reasons. if seller is uncooperative, file a dispute with paypal.

+1... that's why they get pissed off when u go through your cc company. paypal is sometimes just as bad as the ripoff artist on the other end.

sorry to hear what happened. as others suggested... get in contact with the seller and tell him what your mechanic said. take it from there. if u return the brakes... make sure u use a courier with full tracking including signature receipt.

Thanks guys. I've contacted the seller and I'll hold off leaving negative feedback for now and see where it goes from here.

first off contact the seller if he's a jerk about it and doesnt give you a partial refund or refund then file a dispute on paypal and call your CC and also file a dispute.

usually filing a disput through your CC is the best way coz paypal really follows up on the claim.
Did this a couple of time and i got my money back paypal also gave me a $100 coupon for me to use on future Ebay purchases!

Goodluck!

I buy and sell all the time on ebay.. and u need to file dispute with ebay ASAP!! dont let this ahole get away with that crap, you can either demand a partial refund, to cover your costs, in which its going to cost to get these resurfaced or a full refund. if you want a full refund you must of course send them back, and make sure to get a tracking number to send to paypal because once they are returned to the seller, no questions asked you will get your money back, even if the seller will not work with you, paypal will and will refund your money! and make sure to leave negative feedback for this creep!!! i hope i was some help to ya! people try to mess with me all the time and i dont put up with it!!

Yes. Thanks. Will Paypal refund shipping costs? He's agreed to take them back but refuses to pay shipping either direction.

Tell him you want YOUR shipping back. A FULL refund or it's a charge back. File a complaint with eBay for "Item not as discribed" and DO IT before he does it to someone else.
