'03 coupe mt axel problem

so my 03 g coupe has about 50k miles on it and two months ago i pulled up next to another g with some kid revving at me. i immediately turned off vcd and got ready for the green. light turns green and i launch and about 2 seconds later i hear a loud bang and my car would not drive. engine was still running and in gear but would not move. got it towed to the dealership and they told me that i broke the axel!!! $1000 later its running like a champ. anyone ever heard of such a problem???

You're in Dana Point? Do you know Everett?

And yes I have heard of this problem with almost any car when they launch from too high of an RPM.

man i've consistently launched my car from like 2500rpm and never had any axel issues...i've launched as high as 3500rpm but wheels just spin...maybe just a faulty axel

i only reved up to about 1000 to 1500. wheels chirped a bit and then the axel just dropped.

yeah definately sounds like an axle issue...my only question to you is why wasn't this covered under the powertrain warranty??? powertrain should be 7yrs/70k???

He's another guy with a G. I only ask because he lives in the Dana Point area, and he pretty much knows everybody that is into cars in that area.

You beat me to it. I do have the same question unless you (KOOP) told the dealer exactly what happened. Plus to that, shouldn't be the axel strong enough to handle stock power?
