I though I was the only one that this was happening to I have the same exact thing happening on my sterring wheel, its all woren out on top and the steering wheel is always sticky, I got a quote on getting it rewrapped its was gonna be like $300

 

Re wrapped by the dealer?? I mean I think it's crap that it needs to be wrpped already. I have never heard of this happening until now. Honestly If the dealer tries to put this one on me I think this will be my first and last Infiniti unfortunatly. I love the car and have no issues with the interior but once it starts costing me money......I have better things to do with my time and money.

I dont know about you but I cant deal with the steering wheel falling apart and getting sticky in my $40,000 car. But hey thats just me. Sorry but after I write out that nice fat car payment check and gte into the car I want to enjoy it. I'll let you know if the dealer does anything.

I beg to differ...My wife's 98' 328i's steering wheel is all effed up similarly like you described. She has a bad habit of gripping too hard and rolling her hands alot esp. when stressing out on the massive parking lot we call the LA freeways.

Seriously though, When did the wear get really bad. A 98' starting to wear now is one thing but if it happened in 99' I would have been pissed (*** you can tell). I've had my G for almost a year / 28k on it. It seems a little soon to me.

My wife's steering wheel on the Beemer has been tore up (the rubber is loosened around metal rim at the 12 o'clock too) ever since I met her in May 99'. She averages about 24k miles annually, so that indicates that the wear and tear for her probably began a little before the 40k mark.

BTW, IMHO that fuzzy steering wheel cover looks low-rider ghetto...hee hee. There's got to be a better option than that!

thank you shader7, i like to clean my car every week and had asked (in another thread) if cleaning and conditioning the leather every week is bad... Now I know =)

I'm surprised you guys grip your steering wheel so much, most of the time when I drive my elbow sits on the door/window part and I just use 2 fingers to keep the wheel where I want it...

Same here, Seriously ther is a slight dent in the door where my elbow rests. I usually drive like that So I dont know. And yeah I like to drive but I wish I didnt have this many miles already.

 

damn 28K in a year, I though I was way over my miles with 14K in one year

 

i drive like gforce1 too...left arm on the window sill and like 2 fingers on the wheel....cuz we cool like that : )
