Car totaled

My car was totaled friday night when I went to make a left turn and was hit on the passenger side by an SUV. The cops said I was at fault becuase I was making a left turn and the other vehicle was going straight. My insurance company Geico is telling me the value of my car based on similar cars is $24000 which includes taxes (mine had was a 52K miles, stillen exhaust). Does this sound about right? and if not what can/should I do about it?

Sounds in the ballpark from what I have seen. I picked up an 05 IP 5AT X with 21K miles for $19,500. Coupe is around $3K more from what I have seen. You can also possibly pull some of your aftermarket components like stereo, etc.

Wow $24,000? Glad I have GEICO, too.

You can probably pay your deductible and still get OTD on a similar G (maybe even newer) with similar (or less!) miles.

Glad you're OK!

Sorry to hear about your accident!

Sounds like your insurance is taking care of you, though. You'll be back in a G, in no time!

Yea, I'm looking around and see some nice ones on Autotrader with less miles selling for around 21K so lets see what happens. Good thing is I had purchased an extended warranty for the car through my credit Union and I'll be getting back around $1700 from that so that's almost $26K and I picked the car up for $18K about six months ago

Cool that you're ok. Now the suck part is insurance gonna go up. Do you have a passenger at the time? If so, have him/her get some $$$ from your insurance too and probably give you some for your new G hehehe

No, no passenger and no I didn't make it on purpose. The accident happend around 10pm and the lady was driving with only a learners permit and several kids in the car (no car seats), I'm not sure if there was a licensed driver with her at the time but I was told she should not have been driving at night anyway. What sucks is that the cop told me that it doesn't matter if she didn't have a license, she could have been drunk out of her head and it still would have been my fault cause I turned and she was going straight. We both had the green light but since she was going straight I got one ticket and she was issued 3 for the kids, permit and something else (maybe no licensed driver or driving at night)

Wow... with a learner's permit in KS you were only allowed to drive when you had a licensed adult at least 18 years of age with you. Pretty sure if you get caught without one you won't be driving until at least 17.

Best thing is going to a lawyer. He'll take care of everything, just tell him whatever happened. Happened to me (at fault), went to a lawyer and got him do everything for me, I didn't have to pay a dime. If win, he makes money and if not probably you'll get off those tickets or so and ofcourse your drive step still go up (if loose).

Did GEICO take the exhaust into account? If not, I don't see why you couldn't take the exhaust. If this is a problem and they didn't take the exhaust's value into account, see if you could replace that one with a used OEM exhaust and take your Stillen.
