5AT weird sound normal? Shift lag...
Hi all,
I am a recent new owner of 03 5AT G coupe with 50k miles and was wondering if you guys experience this: in the morning when I first start the car, there is a slight gearing sound when the car first shift from 1st to 2nd. It does not happen anymore after the car gets warm, or after I restart it after parking for a few hours or so. It sounds like metal rubbing against metal for about 1 sec, and is not that loud at all but loud enough to hear it every morning. Is this considered normal?
Also I've noticed that sportshifting in the G is more sluggish than a Acura CL that I drive as a daily driver...it feels as though it takes twice longer to wait for the car to downshift, and it doesnt like to shift 2 gears at once. For example, I can down tap the sportshift consecutively twice in the CL and it will go to 3rd then 2nd by itself, but in the G I have to wait till it gets to 3rd then down tap again to get it to 2nd. If I down tap twice it will only downshift by 1 gear etc. Is this a sign of tranny turning bad? gosh....
Also I am just wondering why nissan made its sportshift unable to go to 2nd after redlining...unlike Audis, Lexus, Acuras etc. I've never tried a M3 so I dunno if it will go to 2nd after redlining..........

Known issue for 5AT's everybody knows about it but it's not harmful as I believe. However, once I got my grouding kit I don't hear it anymore. I think it has more to do with shifting and with the kit it makes the tranny shift smoother.

I have the ABS sound too, and I was wicked worried at first when I heard it. It was cleared up by some friendly members here on my thread a while ago as well.
In the mornings, just before shifting to 2nd gear, I hear the metallic sound from the front, kind of like a spring unload or something of that sort.
As for the slow downshift, I think it started in 2005, since the AT now does Rev-matching, and that takes time.
Correct me if I am wrong.
