Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

Our 93 Z28 6sp was tested at 5.7sec 0-60 in magazines, and it had only 275 HP back then. That was the 1st year of the last bodystyle sans flush headlights. I havent driven that car for a few years, but it seemed to run out of steam at higher rpms so the lower end torque makes up the difference.

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

The Camaro SS vs Z28 horsepower difference is really no difference at all. They dyno the same, same motor, same tuning. When I bought my '01 SS I knew they dynoed the same...it's the same motor except one has "ram air' and one doesn't. The benifits of the ram air on the camaro (it's a better design on the trans am). Other differences the the SS has that the Z28 doesn't: Better intake lid(optional on '02 only) Bigger wheels/tires, powersteering cooler, different rear spoiler, bigger front/rear sway bars, and of course the "SS" badging . With only a $3500 differnce between the SS and the Z28...I chose the SS. Of course the SS has a lot more available options that drive the price way up: Bilstein shocks/Eibach springs/ SS grill, Auburn differential, etc. Sorry for a long winded post, just thought I'd explain the differences. By the way...the SS with "1LE" option .91g on the skidpad...not bad and it wouldn't do so bad in the "twisties"

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

Why don't we cool it with the blasphemous "ricer" termonology. I'm glad this topic is still up. Today, while i was on the highway, heading home, i was in the driving lane when this boy racer and his side-kick, pull up next to me, and he looks over with a sh*t eatting grin like " lets go". i had my gurl friend and my best friend and cousin in the car. So i was very hesitant about playin around with this guy...but after a few minutes of egging on by my boy.. i was ready to rumble....he stayed next to me for about a minute and then drop a gear to let me know he was ready to play. so i down shifted to 3rd, cuz i was doin the speed limit...lol. and we speed off through the gears..the first run was about to 95 cuz we ran into traffic, not to mention i miss-shifted so he was ahead of me by about a car length. Now im pretty familiar with the camaros and the other f-bodies and i know the the ls1 engines are pretty damn sick.. .but i didnt see any badging for SS on his car, but either way i was gonna let him see the the G is no light weight. so at this point in time my boy is lookin a lil disappointed in me and my gurl and like " Ooooo... did u just lose" cuz she hates for me to race and she was rubbing it in..lol. So i trailed him untill i saw a clear path for us to do this again. now doing about 75 i kept it in 4th gear and pulled up to him again... and he is cheesing at me, but i was determined to wipe that smile off his damn face...hahaha... so we line up doing about 80 and we go flying off again.. we stay pretty even through my 4th gear and at the middle of 5th i started to pull on him by a lil bit less than a half car length... it never really got less or more than that as i came to 6th gear... so i shut down cause we were approaching traffic and the last exit at which i could get home on cause i missed my street exit....lol. but all in all i respect the ls1 even more... but its nice to know that the G is a force to be reckoned with......representing for the G 3 feva....lol

respect the 35... after all its a skyline

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

o... yea, i forgot to say what year the car was.I pretty confident it was a 96-98 chevy camaro. dont think it had any sports packages... Bare with me people, its 2:20 am. so im tired as hell, but i didnt want to forget the details on the race... and i know the flames are coming with the street racing, especially with people in the car... I'm sorry.. but it was to damn tempting... enjoy the story, and excuse my grammar...

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

You may can take the Camaros off the line but u will never win a quarter without mods.

Iv raced a newer ('01 maybe) Z28 on a 1/8th mile track and had him by 2/10s at 60' and it looked like he got a good launch but he had me by 330' and by 2/10s by the 1/8th

Iv also raced a older (maybe early 90s) Camaro on a 1/4 mile and I had him until right at 1000' where that V8 just overpowered my poor G and he won by not quite 1/10th

What does losing by 2/10s in the 1/8th equate to in car lengths?

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

Oh not this crap. When are you people gonna learn about competition before starting a race? Unless you running turbo or s/c there is no way you'll beat the stock LS1. Even that there are not many Camaro left stock and most modded on the street running 12s all day long. Ugly car IMO but damn, put some mods and its so fast.

Re: Lost to a Camaro Z28

I think a race from a stop to 100 mph and the Z28 would win about 2 car lengths.
