So reprograming my key 'should' fix it?
Is your NATS/IVIS indicator LED solid red when cranking the engine? If so then yeah you probably just need to get it reprogrammed, or the RFID chip in the key failed. You can follow the troubleshooting steps in the FSM, section BL - Body/Locks/Security

This is what's happening to mine..
Solid red light means NATS/IVIS is triggered, the ECM will still CRANK the engine but it will not open the fuel injectors or deliver spark.

So should I try and reprogram my key or do I need the ecu/bcm reprogrammed at the dealership?
You can't actually "program the key" on a vehicle, what you do is program the body control module to accept the RFID chip from the key. This is done either at the dealership with the Consult-II/III tool or through some independent locksmiths that have the tool for the Nissan BCM. Call around.
Do all your keys cause the red light?

I strongly suggest you have a locksmith cut you a new key from the VIN number, the programming fee is a flat rate at the dealership, doesn't matter if you bring in 1 key or all 5. That way you have a backup key.
If you have the regular key system and not the intelligent start then it's pretty cheap for another key. If you do have the intelligent key (kind where you don't have to put the key in the ignition, either a push button or something) then it's considerably more expensive because you need the entire fob which is usually $50 at the CHEAPEST.
The Nissan programming fee is the same regardless of which type of security system you have.

You need to reprogram the key fobs to the BCM using either Consult 3+ or a reputable scan tool to has the ability to program keys OR a locksmith.
What happens is the BCM loses connection with ECM for no apparent reason (vibration, moisture, bad day..) and needs to be 'refreshed'.
I've programmed key fobs on G35s using xTool D7 and it worked out fine. If you want to disable NATS or NUTS as i call it, then you'll need to have the ECM flashed by a tuner and
the starts at $500+..
