G35 vs. Eclipse GT

Hey guys I'm new to the forum, I'm about to sell my Mitsubishi Eclipse and UPGRADE to a 6mt Coupe...Can anyone speak from experience regarding the performance difference between the two...Or for anyone who hasn't owned an Eclipse, have you come up against one and what were the results...I mean I understand the G should walk it easily, but how significant of a difference was it...Just convince me I won't be dissapointed...I've test drivent the G and I can feel the power difference but I've never come up against one...Thanks

You won't be disappointed. I've walked away from several Eclipses when racing. They just don't have the power. I think that they run like 210 hp stock.

The G is much more satisfying.

no real comparison imo. The G wins in every category of performance

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

I owned I 97 Eclipse GST (before they came out with the lame V6). It was alot of fun to drive, nice and quick but absolutely no comparison to the G35. Take a test drive and you should notice in an instant the power and handling difference.

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

I had '97 GSX, with moddest to heavy mods, depending upon your outlook. Bottom line was about 325-350 Flywheel HP. Had a friend with a '96 GS-T with same mods. I can honestly say, you're only worry about an Eclipse beating a G35c is if it's a GSX (all-wheel drive) with significant mods. The GS-T with significant mods results in wheelspin at anything under 50mph.

And you said Eclipse GT, so I'm assuming you're talking about the 3rd generation model. In that case, the G35c is going to trounce it. Even with equal mods and horsepower, the Eclipse still suffers from front-wheel drive. Sorry, but that's not the recipe for quick times.

You're not going to be dissapointed if you step up to the G.

Future G35C Owner... ...Never too soon to think about modifications!!

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

no offense, but i've driven the new gen eclipses, and they are jokes. it handles like a boat, the power is laughable and the comfort is damnably miniscule. i can't stand most mitsubishis because of these new gen eclipses; thank god for the evo .

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

We sold a '00 5mt GT eclipse to get our G35S. There is absolutley no match between the two. I got beat many times in races and was just tired of the car. Even my '94 Taurus SHO would handily beat the Eclipse everytime.

The weight distribution on the Eclipse was terrible. It plowed through the twisties. The suspension was too soft and would bob up and down at higher speeds. I was actually scared to drive it fast. Honestly I never took it over 110mph. With the open diff and FWD all you would do is spin the tires. I am glad we sold it before it depreciated down to nothing.

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

the older genreation eclipse uses the same engine as the old evolution..so..be careful if they put a big turbo in...it can be fast

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

I came up against a GS-T. He was heavily modded, but I still took him. About 0-30 no problem he started to creep up a little around 60, when his turbo spooled up, ( i could hear it) from 60-80 I kept walking on him no problem. Young kid looked dissapointed as hell, you could tell he put some $$$ in his car. Car was definetely not slow, when heavily modded, but what usually isn't ?

Sorry... LOLOL

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

I would look at other features of the G, not just performance for your decision. Do you need a back seat that can seat people fairly comfortably? Are you looking for great looking machine with luxury features? Are you ready to pay 40$ for a tank of gas? :-) [grin]. Seriously, the G is a great mix of performance and luxury. I have had stupendous service from Roswell Infiniti (I know about the NJ and NY dealer nightmares). For a raw power machine, you have alternatives, especially coming up from an Eclipse. I had a Mits and hated the dealer, hated the service, and really hated the build quality (after 40k miles, mine went downhill to become a money pit of repairs one after another). Bone stock considered, the G definitely has more power and you will tell the difference from your Eclipse.

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

I raced an Eclipse in my MX6 and I was behind him by only a nose. Thus I conclude that the Eclipse is similar in performance to my old MX6 and there was a big difference between my G and my 6.

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

In terms of gas, actually the Eclipse GST required 91/93 octane, so you won't be saving anything from that viewpoint.

Re: G35 vs. Eclipse GT

My car before my current 6mt coupe was a 2001 Eclipse GT 5spd. The eclipse was made of crap imo. horrible quality, horrible customer service, and overall a bad experience with that car.

Performance wise, i had an exhaust and intake on my eclipse, along with upgraded suspension/rims/tires/sway bars, etc. Even after all that, the G35 coupe out handles AND out accelerates the eclipse without any problem.

Basically, its no comparasion. Get the G35 Coupe. Its a far superior car to any mitsushitty.
