Re: M3 BEATER

And I may be incorrect here, but from what I've heard, doing FI, either Turbo or Supercharger can be detrimental to a stock engine (shortening its life or blowing it altogether.) Also, while it's up for debate, I know that my dealer told me that it would, without question, violate the warranty. Personally I'd love to have a SC on my coupe- but think I'll wait until the warranty period is over and I can afford to have the right kind of pistons/crankshaft/etc installed to handle the additional stresses FI causes.

Nice thing about getting old- my Insurance Premiums are less than yours!

i agree...i don't think its worth messing with the warranty.....well then again..there some people out there that are really loaded...then..they should just go ahead...then again..they should've just got a 911 gt2 and just get over with it =)

Re: M3 BEATER

while the evo is faster on a track, its acceleration would most likely bow to the m3 in 1/4, unless the driver sucked in the m3 (e46 that is)

wow didnt know a stroker kit cost that much. Then in that case just get an upgraded cams, intake, exhaust, intake plennium, and ligher flywheel that is if you can afford it.

Re: M3 BEATER

The E46 M3 is fast, but it's not the last word in sport coupes. The Evo8 and M3 have similar 0-60 times and 1/4 times where it really comes down to the driver. I believe most mags have the Evo8 beating the Sti in 0-60, but the Sti beating the Evo8 in 1/4. The Evo8 MR should be even faster. And if the Evo8 FQ320 is made available (it is in the UK), it's even faster (320 hp).

Re: M3 BEATER

i dunno man..i always thought STi is a little faster than evo 0-60....due to more hp and torque....MR is a lighter version of evo..so ya...i assume it will be even faster...but the fact is that...when u go to such high speed...awd is gonna lose torque and RWD will speed up better at high speed...

Re: M3 BEATER

i'm kind of (well, VERY) anti-bmw, so i don't think in any way bmw is the last word in motorsports or sport coupes.

the evo is slightly faster than the STI in 0-60 because of gearing; the sti has to get into 3rd to make it to 60, while the evo can stay in 2nd. the quarter mile time has the sti ahead about .2-.3 seconds; the m3 is about equal to that. so, while the evo CAN win in 1/4 mile, the numbers still show the m3 with an advantage.

the evo would probably beat the m3 in a road course. they are in the same stock class in scca regulations.

Re: M3 BEATER

EVO/STI won't stand a chance against an M car, straight away, road course yes, the M has to much low end torque, trust me I know.

Re: M3 BEATER

motortrend has the sti and m3 both at 13.2. the bmw has a higher trap speed by 2mph.

so i don't know where you get "won't stand a chance" from? ever tried launching awd? you'll be hard pressed to stay ahead of an sti or evo launched properly.
Edited by hueman on 05/21/04 12:06 AM.
