Trade in for an 03-05 G35?

Hey guys, right now I own a 2004 Accord V6 6sp. Its kept me happy for a short while, but I'm just dying without having RWD. Ive had several domestic V8's (fox mustangs, 4th gen F-bodies, etc) and I got this thinking the "sporty" handling and the 6 speed would keep me happy. Well, ha, no. I miss the oversteer

Ive been looking into other cars such as 350Z, S2000, 330Ci, and some others, but I really need to stick w/ something that has 4 seats, otherwise my insurance goes through the roof.

I like the Accord. Its a comfortable car, roomy enough, decent power, but leaves room for improvement in braking and handling. Its not a bad car, I just think I can get better for close to the same price. I know this is a forum dedicated to the G35, but if anyone has some input to compare a G35 Coupe 6 speed to the V6 6 speed accord, please chime in! I have always loved the look of the G35 and it would be badass to finally own one. Thanks in advance!

I hate front wheel drive.

Although the Accord 2dr coupe looks acceptable from a styling standpoint, I can't imagine moving into that from the g35.

Have you checked insurance rates on the g35? I suspect most insurance companies will consider it a "high performance" car.

If you've been driving American V-8's you might find yourself a little underwhelmed by the g35. The V-6 is a phenomenal engineering masterpiece, considering the level of horsepower it generates for it's displacement...but it just doesn't have the torque I'd expect. On the interstate where you can let it run it's fine, but it doesn't launch from a stoplight quite like I'd hoped.

If you're into adding modifications to find more power, it seems after you find the next 15 horsepower or so, it gets extremely expensive to add any more.

Still, it's no Accord...and you'll find many perspectives/opinions on the performance of the g35 here. I suspect if I owned an Accord (I have driven Accords when renting cars), and I had the opportunity to move into a comparable (mileage, age, condition) g35 for roughly the same price, it wouldn't take more than a second or two for me to hand the Accord keys over.

Thats the perspective I was looking for. Insurance for the G35 is only $7 more each month than my Accord, compared to $45 more each month for a 350Z. Its the back seat that makes the difference apparently.

I'm not looking for a replacement for my mustang or camaro, I have my bike for that. I just want something fun to drive, good on gas (well, better than the V8's) and nice looking. I think the G35 fits the bill better than the Accord so far. I just dont want to jump into it and realize its a maintenance nightmare.

G35's are excellent on maintence bro. The engines are extremely reliable. If you are buying used, you have to be careful of the clutch and gears if it's manual, and if you buy a manual G35 05 and up, there is a possibilty it may consume oil. However, it is an uncommon problem.

Before you buy the one you want, make sure you get a full inspection done on it. Another member on here bought one without doing inspection, and his engine is failing because of hydrolock from the previous owner.

But the G35 is an excellent car. GL with your decision

Yeah I saw that thread actually. I've been doing alot of reading on here before just asking random questions. They're saying it was the aftermarket CAI that sucked water into the engine and caused it to hydrolock cylinder 5. Really sucks...

But its good to hear about maintenance. I just drove an 05 6 speed yesterday and wow it feels good to drive a RWD car again, especially a manual. These cars have a T56 in them right? Same as the Camaro, Viper, Cobra, etc? If so, thats always a good thing, I know how to rebuild them. Hopefully its the same transmission

Something to think about also is if it matches your lifestyle. The rear seats in the G35 are tighter than the 330ci, and a lot tighter than the Accord. Also, the trunk is pretty small.

Dont let my story get yah down from the G35.
Thats nothing wrong with the car itself.

Thats everything to do with cold air intake, and thinking your driving a swamp boat.

Thats driver error, well previous owner error.

He sold it off, knowing the problem the motor had.
The dealer I bought it from was just kind enough to leave that part out when I bought the car =P

Honestly I have only had the Accord for about 7 months and I'm already bored. But in that time I think I have only used the back seat maybe 4 times, and only ONE of those times were there 2 people in the back seat. Most of the time its a girl back there anyway lol. I usually dont use my trunk really. The G has enough room for groceries and other small crap. I have a 98 Ranger if I need to carry anything big (i.e. golf clubs).

Oh no, I'm not letting your story affect my decision. I know what water does inside a cylinder and how its not the car's fault, but just the idiot driver.

I just drove one yesterday, of course I want one! I was just trying to get a rundown of what I should expect other than going broke from modding the thing

I don't know what a proper running G35 runs like =P.
But with my hydrolocked G35, that thing still moved man.
I came from an 03 Dakota R/T, which isnt to bad either.

The other day before I took her in to the dealer, I picked up a buddy from school and some clown in a rsx got next to me at a light.

Good lord how hard I pulled him off the line to about 60. Missing second gear, aswell =P

Might be wrong, but beating up a previously hydrolocked motor probably isnt the best idea

When you already bought the car.
It already needs a new motor.
And your 17.
You dont car what happens to the motor, if it needs a new one.
I planned on driving it like it was actually good =/
