smoke from the dash... now no audio - HELP!
So the radio was turned down to 0 - and then I heard a few loud THUDS. I thought someone had thrown something at my car, but it was from the speakers. After the second round of thuds, I could smell a faint electrical fire, and some smoke came out from behind the radio area. I turned the car off and checked to make sure there was no fire, then started the car again. I turned the radio back on, changed CD's and tracks, but there was no audio.
It would seem as though it would be the AMP - but that is in the rear (from what I have read) so I am kinda at a loss for where to start with this. Everything seems to be fine if I don't want the radio to work... but that isn't a good answer.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Guess I should add this is a 1st gen 2003 that has just over 100k miles and has has no major problems in the past. Thanks again.

I am guessing fried radio? Take it to a dealership or trusted audio shop. I am sure they will give you a diagnosis. But generally, smoke from the dash is a bad thing.
Might lead to other problems or maybe was caused by a short that didn't have anything to do with the radio. Just get it checked out.
