Door Key Hole -- Damaged

To my horror, as I was washing my car today, I noticed something that left me speechless -- someone had messed with my car. The key hole on my driver's side door looks as if a screwdriver was shoved in it. Now, I can't use my key to lock/unlock the door.

I'm not sure when this occurred, as I usually use the remote to lock/unlock my doors. I'm inclined to think it may have been this morning when I was at the gym, but I can't be certain. It happened this week though. I washed my car last weekend, and it was fine.

Does anyone know how much this will cost to fix?

Re: Door Key Hole -- Damaged

that frickn sucks! according to the service manual the lock cylinder set runs around $80 (might just be able to order the lock cylinder separately for a cheaper amount).

what i did to decrease the chances of this happening and to help the aesthetics at the same time, was purchasing the passenger side door handle cap and installed it on the driver's side.

granted the window down mechanism still works if the thief were to pop the cover off, but it also might deter the person as well because they can't see the lock mechanism in the first place. ALSO, i am somewhat screwed if my battery dies, but i can always pry off the cap if needed.

since your lock does not work at the moment, this might be a good bandaid for you until you decide to fix it. the part is only around $15 shipped. looks like you have dg. the part # for dg is 82646-AM817.

man how pathetic can people be?

Thanks for the excellent suggestion, g4s. I wish I had known about this aesthetically pleasing preventive mod sooner.

Looks like I'll be at the dealership first thing Monday morning to see if I can get this fixed or at least have the necessary replacement parts ordered if not in stock.

yah those pesky parents...get with the new millenium and use the damn keyfobs!

Part Numbers:
BO - 82646-AM805
CB - 82646-AM816
LR - 82646-AM815
DP - 82646-AM807
BS - 82646-AM810
DG - 82646-AM817
IP - 82646-AM808

there's the list for the other colors with the exception of tb. theres a thread over at freshalloy describing the install. REALLY simple. you'll need a t30 torx screw, flathead screwdriver, and maybe 5 minutes of free time.

1. open the door
2. locate a quarter sized rubber grommet on door jamb (door handle level) > pop out
3. unscrew the torx screw (there will be a plastic tab to prevent it from dropping but be careful anyways)
4. gently (don't wanna scratch the baby) pop out the lock mechanism just enough to get at the cover (not necesary to unhinge the mechanism)
5. carefully use screwdriver to pry off cover > replace lock cover with newly purchased one

*as stated earlier, you will no longer be able to open the car in the event of a dead battery, without popping the cap off (potentially scratching the baby) or calling AAA

Re: Door Key Hole -- Damaged

I think you just got really lucky. I've been seeing a lot of posts that the window down mechanism can be turned on by jamming a screw driver in the lock. Do a search and you'll probably find something. I think somebody was trying to jack your G dude. Be careful!

Re: Door Key Hole -- Damaged

I'm just glad nothing else got damaged. Looks like the person who did this either gave up after a few tries or ran off when someone approached. Had there been more effort, there would probably be more visible damage.
