I'm currently in the market to buy a used G35 or 350Z.. Can anyone tell me which of the models/years had the oil consumption problems?

if u researched a little more, theyre the same engine, VQ35DE

 

i thought it was more of an issue with the revup motors....

 

wrong.

350z has 3 diff types of motors.. while the g35 has their own non-rev motor and rev-up.. THIS is why i asked which specifically have the problems, but not limited to of course.

upon further searching i found that the rev-up motor is the culprit motor. thanks anyway.

 

sorry , i know noting of rev up motors :P, didnt know there was any difference

 

all models had the oil consumption problem, just less common in the 03-04 models

common: 2005-2007 rev up motors (6mt cars)

not so common: every other VQ motor haha

Non revups are not completely immune to this lol. Read many going South right before or just after power-train warranty coverage. It's all in the many OC threads here and the main one on my350Z.

It's an uncommon problem though, it's not as common as everyone makes it seem.

It would be a much more common issue if people checked their own oil level. I assumed for 50K miles that my 03 wasn't consuming oil, since I always had the service done at the local Infiniti dealership, figuring that if it were consuming oil, they would let me know.

Well, when I checked myself, it was doing 3 quarts in 1000 miles.
