Newbie 2003 G35 Coupe

Hello....a soon to be newbie....trying to make up my mind. I am a die-hard BMW fanatic and looking to cross over to the G land because these cars look sweet and have nice power numbers.

Firstly, I do all the mechanical work on my Bmw's and have had some pretty good luck with my cars...both have about 200,000 miles with original clutches.

I haven't driven a G35 yet, but will soon. I did have a 1989 300zx back in the early days when I was single....a good reliable car back then.

Questions:

1. How reliable is this car?
2. Any specific maintenance needed? Timing belt? Water pump?
3. How good is the clutch?
4. How quick is this car as compared to a stock 330ci BMW ?
5. Mod's....any good bolt on mods and roughly how much power gain?
6. How easy are these cars to work on?

just looking for some input on if I will see a difference going from the BMW to Infiniti land?

1. As far as the engine and electrical, very. Although a 2003 does have the most problems, I can't remember specifically but the window motors will die eventually. Look up the TSB's for 2003, I believe there are about 3, all minor.

2. Nothing out of the ordinary. G35's use a timing chain that last a very long time, I think the are supposed to go for 150k and up.

3. On what basis? Relabilty? Grip? It is heavier than other cars.

4. a 6MT runs about a 5.4 0-60 with a good driver and I think low 14 in the 1/4 mile, which idk the numbers, but it is faster than a 330.

5. The reason the hp is so high stock is because the engine is so well-built already. If you put in a cheap CAI, you will lose power. Spacer/exhaust/intake is the most common, but will only give you 15-20 hp, if that. Best way to go for power is FI.

6. Most of it is decently easy. It varies though. Replacing the clear corners or putting in a spacer is very easy. Putting in headers is a really big PITA.
