Calling All Owners of OEM Grill Painted Black: What Have You Done to Prevent Chipping
I really really really love the look of the OEM grill with the horizontal bars paitned black and leaving the OEM Infiniti emblem chrome. Is there ANY POSSIBLE WAY to do this mod without the damn thing chipping. I want to do the mod but I'm not comfortable doing it knowing that it will chip and look awful in 6 months.
Has ANYONE on here painted the grill and done a clear bra or something to make sure it stays looking the same?

Chips are probably going to happen no matter what you do and I don't think it would be very easy to clear bra it but maybe with enough time and money you could probably do it.

If you are doing a flat/matte black color then just use PlastiDip instead of paint. It goes on like paint but dries a rubbery film. We did the chrome on my husbands car about 10k miles ago and not a single chip in it. The best part is if you don't like it then once it is dry you can just peel it off in a big sheet.
This was before, see the chrome around the grill.

And after, so much better

I also used it on the chrome piece on my old WRX

Okay so you would sand the grill down regardless and how many layers are we talking about doing? And it most likely would not chip down the road? I really like this idea, though.
^^ I wish my wife was 1/2 of you into cars.
people, since that you are repaint your grill, why would you worry about being chipped off down the road. Just repaint it again when it happens, its just the grill, not the whole bumper.
